Abstract

A round of negotiation for an item is initiated between a plurality of bidders at a plurality of client nodes and a host processing node. A price bid for the item is received from each of the plurality of bidders. At least one negotiation parameter is received from at least one of the plurality of bidders. The negotiation parameter is associated with the item. A total cost value is determined based on an active negotiation term, the price bid, and the negotiation parameter for each of the plurality of bidders.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

at a first time event within said round displaying said total cost value for each of said plurality of bidders through an application framework;

wherein aspects of said application framework is accessible to a third party and a bidder that placed a price bid, and said aspects are not accessible by any other of said plurality of bidders.

7 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

displaying a bid summary through said application framework;

wherein said bid summary comprises at least one of said price bid, said parameter, and said active negotiation term.

8 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

during subsequent time events within said round:

receiving a supplemental price bid and supplemental information comprising at least one variable that is different from a previously submitted variable from each of said plurality of bidders at said host processing node; and

displaying a revised total cost value for each of said plurality of bidders through said negotiation framework.

9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

updating said active negotiation term approximately in real time as said supplemental information is received.

10 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising displaying a hierarchy of said plurality of bidders based on said total cost value.

11 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

displaying said bid price and said negotiation parameter through said application framework;

displaying a relative gap between said price bid and a market leading bid; and

displaying an impact of said negotiation parameter on said price bid;

wherein said application framework is accessible only to a bidder that submitted said price bid and said parameter.

12 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

enabling said bidder to submit a modified price bid and at least one modified negotiation parameter.

13 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising selecting a negotiation method.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein selecting said negotiation method comprises:

selecting a negotiation method from the group consisting of request for quote collaboration, initial offer, reverse auction, split of business, forward auction, Dutch auction, English auction, multi-attribute, bid-ask, transportation, and supplier lotting.

15 . An apparatus, comprising:

a processor to initiate a round of negotiation for an item between a plurality of bidders at a plurality of client nodes and a host processing node;

receive a price bid for said item from each of said plurality of bidders;

receive a negotiation parameter from at least one of said plurality of bidders, said negotiation parameter is associated with said item; and

determine a total cost value based on an active negotiation term, said price bid, and said negotiation parameter for each of said plurality of bidders.

16 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein said processor is to determine a total cost value based on said active negotiation term based on said negotiation parameter; wherein said negotiation term applies a proportional relevance to said negotiation parameter.

17 . The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein said processor is to:

receive at said host processing node information comprising said negotiation parameter from at least one of said plurality of bidders, wherein said information is associated with said item; assign a weight to said information; and determine said active negotiation term based on said weights.

18 . The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein said processor is to:

determine a score based on said active negotiation term.

19 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein said processor is to:

receive multiple active negotiation terms selected from the group consisting of quality system qualification, lead time, payment terms, spoilage, tooling, fixturing, and plastic molding qualifications.

20 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein said processor is to:

display said total cost value for each of said plurality of bidders through an application framework at a first time event within said round;

wherein aspects of said application framework is accessible to a third party and a bidder that placed a price bid, and said aspects are not accessible by any other of said plurality of bidders.

21 . The apparatus of claim 20 , wherein said processor is to:

display a bid summary through said application framework;

wherein said bid summary comprises at least one of said price bid, said parameter, and said active negotiation term.

22 . The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein said processor is to:

during subsequent time events within said round:

receive a supplemental price bid and supplemental information comprising at least one variable that is different from a previously submitted variable from each of said plurality of bidders at said host processing node; and

display a revised total cost value for each of said plurality of bidders through said negotiation framework.
