Abstract

An electronic display assembly for viewing by a person in a resting position includes a carriage movable along a translation axis, a pivot arm coupled to the carriage, and an electronic display coupled to the pivot arm. The pivot arm is pivotable about a pivot axis, and the display is adjustably positionable both along the translation axis and about the pivot axis. The pivot axis remains non-orthogonal to the translation axis through a range of adjustable positioning of the electronic display. The assembly further includes a track to which the carriage is coupled for movement along the translation axis and an apparatus for receiving a person in a resting position. The track is mounted to a ceiling, and the carriage is suspended below the carriage above the apparatus.

Claims (40)

1 . An electronic display assembly for viewing by a person in a resting position, comprising,

(a) a carriage movable along a translation axis,

(b) a pivot arm coupled to said carriage, said pivot arm pivotable about a pivot axis, and

(c) an electronic display coupled to said pivot arm and adjustably positionable both,

(i) along said translation axis by movement of said carriage, and

(ii) about said pivot axis by movement of said pivot arm,

(d) wherein said pivot axis remains non-orthogonal to said translation axis through a range of adjustable positioning of said electronic display.

2 . The electronic display assembly of claim 1 , wherein said electronic display is suspended below said carriage.

3 . The electronic display assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a track to which said carriage is coupled for movement along said translation axis.

4 . The electronic display assembly of claim 3 , wherein said track is mounted to a ceiling.

5 . The electronic display assembly of claim 3 , wherein said track is mounted to a wall.

6 . The electronic display assembly of claim 1 , further comprising an apparatus for receiving a person in a resting position, wherein said carriage is suspended above said apparatus.

7 . The electronic display assembly of claim 6 , wherein said apparatus is a medical support apparatus for a patient.

8 . The electronic display assembly of claim 7 , wherein said apparatus is a dental chair.

9 . The electronic display assembly of claim 7 , wherein said apparatus is an operating table.

10 . The electronic display assembly of claim 6 , wherein said apparatus comprises a bed.

11 . The electronic display assembly of claim 6 , wherein said apparatus comprises a chair.

12 . The electronic display assembly of claim 6 , wherein said apparatus comprises a recliner.

13 . The electronic display assembly of claim 1 , wherein said coupling of said pivot arm to said carriage comprises a swivel arm extending between said pivot arm and said carriage, said swivel arm being rotatable about a swivel axis.

14 . The electronic display assembly of claim 13 , wherein said swivel arm is coupled to said carriage, said coupling of said swivel arm to said carriage comprising a swivel member through which said swivel axis passes.

15 . The electronic display assembly of claim 14 , wherein said coupling of said swivel arm to said carriage further comprises a support member connecting said swivel member to said carriage.

16 . The electronic display assembly of claim 13 , further comprising a swivel member connecting said swivel arm to said pivot arm, said pivot arm being rotatable about a second swivel axis.

17 . The electronic display assembly of claim 16 , wherein said pivot axis passes through an end of said pivot arm disposed adjacent to said swivel member connecting said pivot arm to said swivel arm.

18 . The electronic display assembly of claim 1 , wherein said coupling of said electronic display and said pivot arm comprises a subassembly connecting said electronic display to said pivot arm.

19 . The electronic display assembly of claim 18 , wherein said pivot arm further is pivotable about another pivot axis that passes through an end of said pivot arm disposed adjacent to said electronic display.

20 . The electronic display assembly of claim 19 , wherein said pivot arm comprises a four-bar-linkage parallelogram.

21 . The electronic display assembly of claim 18 , wherein said subassembly comprises a display bracket.

22 . The electronic display assembly of claim 18 , wherein said subassembly comprises,

(i) a swivel member through which a swivel axis passes,

(ii) a display mounting member, and

(iii) an elongate member extending between said swivel member and said mounting member, said elongate member being pivotably mounted to,

(A) said swivel member for pivoting movement about a second pivot axis, and

(B) said mounting member for pivoting movement about a third pivot axis,

(iv) wherein said elongate member is rotatable about said swivel axis.

23 . The electronic display assembly of claim 22 , wherein said pivot arm further is pivotable about another pivot axis that passes through an end of said pivot arm disposed adjacent to said swivel member.

24 . The electronic display assembly of claim 22 , wherein said elongate member comprises two elongate side bars.

25 . The electronic display assembly of claim 22 , wherein said mounting member is integral with said electronic display.

26 . The electronic display assembly of claim 22 , wherein said mounting member is removably attached to said electronic display.

27 . A method for providing healthcare service to a patient, comprising utilizing said electronic display assembly of claim 1 to present video media to the patient in a resting position while the patient is receiving healthcare service.

28 . A method for providing dental care service to a patient, comprising utilizing said electronic display assembly of claim 1 to present video media to the patient in a resting position while the patient is receiving dental care service.
