Abstract

An electronic display assembly for viewing by a person in a resting position includes: a carriage movable along a translation axis; a swivel arm coupled to the carriage, the swivel arm rotatable about a swivel axis; and an electronic display coupled to the swivel arm and adjustably positionable both along the translation axis by movement of the carriage, and about the swivel axis by movement of the swivel arm. The swivel axis remains orthogonal to the translation axis throughout adjustable positioning of the electronic display.

Claims (41)

1 . An electronic display assembly for viewing by a person in a resting position, comprising,

(a) a carriage movable along a translation axis,

(b) a swivel arm coupled to said carriage, said swivel arm rotatable about a swivel axis, and

(c) an electronic display coupled to said swivel arm and adjustably positionable both,

(i) along said translation axis by movement of said carriage, and

(ii) about said swivel axis by movement of said swivel arm,

(d) wherein said swivel axis remains orthogonal to said translation axis throughout adjustable positioning of said electronic display.

2 . The electronic display assembly of claim 1 , wherein said electronic display is suspended below said carriage.

3 . The electronic display assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a track to which said carriage is coupled for movement along said translation axis.

4 . The electronic display assembly of claim 3 , wherein said track is mounted to a ceiling of a room, said translation axis being generally parallel to the ceiling.

5 . The electronic display assembly of claim 4 , wherein said swivel axis is orthogonal to said translation axis.

6 . The electronic display assembly of claim 1 , further comprising an apparatus for receiving a person in a resting position, wherein said carriage is suspended above said apparatus.

7 . The electronic display assembly of claim 6 , wherein said apparatus is a medical support apparatus for a patient.

8 . The electronic display assembly of claim 7 , wherein said apparatus is a dental chair.

9 . The electronic display assembly of claim 7 , wherein said apparatus is an operating table.

10 . The electronic display assembly of claim 6 , wherein said apparatus comprises a bed.

11 . The electronic display assembly of claim 6 , wherein said apparatus comprises a chair.

12 . The electronic display assembly of claim 6 , wherein said apparatus comprises a recliner.

13 . The electronic display assembly of claim 1 , wherein said coupling of said swivel arm to said carriage comprises a swivel member through which said swivel axis passes.

14 . The electronic display assembly of claim 13 , wherein said coupling of said swivel arm to said carriage further comprises a support member connecting said swivel member to said carriage.

15 . The electronic display assembly of claim 1 , wherein said coupling of said electronic display and said swivel arm comprises a pivot arm extending between said electronic display and said swivel arm, said pivot arm being pivotable about a pivot axis.

16 . The electronic display assembly of claim 15 , wherein said coupling of said electronic display and said swivel arm further comprises a member connecting said pivot arm to said swivel arm.

17 . The electronic display assembly of claim 16 , wherein said member comprises a swivel member through which a second swivel axis passes, said pivot arm being rotatable about said second swivel axis.

18 . The electronic display assembly of claim 17 , wherein said pivot axis passes through an end of said pivot arm disposed adjacent to said swivel member connecting said pivot arm to said swivel arm.

19 . The electronic display assembly of claim 15 , wherein said coupling of said electronic display and said swivel arm further comprises a subassembly connecting said electronic display to said pivot arm.

20 . The electronic display assembly of claim 19 , wherein said pivot arm further is pivotable about another pivot axis that passes through an end of said pivot arm disposed adjacent to said electronic display.

21 . The electronic display assembly of claim 20 , wherein said pivot arm comprises a four-bar-linkage parallelogram.

22 . The electronic display assembly of claim 15 , wherein said subassembly comprises a display bracket.

23 . The electronic display assembly of claim 15 , wherein said subassembly comprises,

(i) a swivel member through which a second swivel axis passes,

(ii) a display mounting member, and

(iii) an elongate member extending between said swivel member and said mounting member, said elongate member being pivotably mounted to,

(A) said swivel member for pivoting movement about a second pivot axis, and

(B) said mounting member for pivoting movement about a third pivot axis,

(iv) wherein said elongate member is rotatable about said second swivel axis.

24 . The electronic display assembly of claim 23 , wherein said pivot arm further is pivotable about another pivot axis that passes through an end of said pivot arm disposed adjacent to said swivel member.

25 . The electronic display assembly of claim 23 , wherein said elongate member comprises two elongate side bars.

26 . The electronic display assembly of claim 23 , wherein said mounting member is integral with said electronic display.

27 . The electronic display assembly of claim 23 , wherein said mounting member is removably attached to said electronic display.

28 . A method for providing healthcare service to a patient, comprising utilizing said electronic display assembly of claim 1 to present video media to the patient in a resting position while the patient is receiving healthcare service.

29 . A method for providing dental care service to a patient, comprising utilizing said electronic display assemble of claim 1 to present video media to the patient in a resting position while the patient is receiving dental care service.
