Abstract

A display is disclosed. The display includes a plurality of pixels configured to emit light. The display also includes a plurality of pixel control circuits that are each configured to regulate emission of light from a pixel. The pixel control circuits each include one or more two-terminal switching devices that include an organic semiconductor.

Claims (50)

1 . A display, comprising:

a plurality of pixels; and

a plurality of pixel control circuits, each circuit comprising a two-terminal circuit and being configured to regulate light from a pixel and including one or more two-terminal switching devices that include an organic semiconductor.

2 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the pixel control circuits include two-terminal switching devices arranged in anti-parallel.

3 . The display of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the pixel control circuits include two or more of the two-terminal switching devices arranged in series.

4 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the semiconductor includes one or more components selected from a group consisting of a polymer, a conjugated polymer and an oligomer.

5 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the semiconductor includes one or more polymers having a backbone with units selected from a group consisting of acetylenes, phenylenes, vinylenes, fluorenes, thiophenes and cyclopentadithiophenes.

6 . The display of claim 5 , wherein the semiconductor includes a co-polymer.

7 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the organic semiconductor includes MEH-PPV (poly(2-methoxy, 5 ethyl, (2′ hexyloxy) para-phenylene vinylene).

8 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the organic semiconductor includes poly(3-hexyl-thiophene).

9 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the one or more two-terminal switching devices includes at least one electrode that includes an organic conductor.

10 . The display of claim 9 , wherein the organic conductor includes one or more components selected from the group consisting of polyaniline, polypyrole, polyethylene dioxythiophene.

11 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the pixel control circuits are positioned on a transparent substrate.

12 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the one or more switching devices include the organic semiconductor positioned between a first electrode and a second electrode.

13 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the first electrode and the second electrode each include an organic conductor.

14 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the pixel control circuits are included on a substrate having a melting point less than about 300° C.

15 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the pixels each include a liquid crystal positioned between a first pixel electrode and a second pixel electrode.

16 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the pixels are included in a Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMs) display, an organic light emitting diode (OLED) display, an electrochromic display, a Liquid Crystal Display, or an electrophoretic display.

17 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the organic semiconductor includes one or more components selected from a group consisting of polyacetylene, a poly(phenylene), a poly(phenylene vinylene), a polyfluorene, a polythiophene or a polycyclopentadithiophene.

18 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the organic semiconductor includes a poly(phenylene vinylene), or a polythiophene.

19 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the pixel control circuits comprise a first diode with a cathode connected to an anode of a second diode.

20 . The display of claim 19 , wherein the pixels are connected to the pixel control circuits through the anode of the first diode and cathode of the second diode.

21 . The display of claim 19 , wherein the cathode of the first diode is connected directly to the anode of the second diode.

22 . The display of claim 19 , wherein the semiconductor includes one or more components selected from a group consisting of a polymer, a conjugated polymer and an oligomer.

23 . The display of claim 19 , wherein the semiconductor includes one or more polymers having a backbone with units selected from a group consisting of acetylenes, phenylenes, vinylenes, fluorenes, thiophenes and cyclopentadithiophenes.

24 . The display of claim 19 , wherein the organic semiconductor includes MEH-PPV (poly(2-methoxy, 5 ethyl, (2′ hexyloxy) para-phenylene vinylene).

25 . The display of claim 19 , wherein the organic semiconductor includes poly(3-hexyl-thiophene).

26 . The display of claim 19 , wherein the pixels are included in a Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMs) display, an organic light emitting diode (OLED) display, an electrochromic display, a Liquid Crystal Display, or an electrophoretic display.

27 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the one or more two-terminal switching devices comprise a first diode with a cathode connected to a display element and a second diode with an anode connected to the display element.

28 . The display of claim 27 , wherein the semiconductor includes one or more components selected from a group consisting of a polymer, a conjugated polymer and an oligomer.

29 . The display of claim 27 , wherein the semiconductor includes one or more polymers having a backbone with units selected from a group consisting of acetylenes, phenylenes, vinylenes, fluorenes, thiophenes and cyclopentadithiophenes.

30 . The display of claim 27 , wherein the organic semiconductor includes MEH-PPV (poly(2-methoxy, 5 ethyl, (2′ hexyloxy) para-phenylene vinylene).

31 . The display of claim 27 , wherein the organic semiconductor includes poly(3-hexyl-thiophene).

32 . The display of claim 27 , wherein the pixels are included in a Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMs) display, an organic light emitting diode (OLED) display, an electrochromic display, a Liquid Crystal Display, or an electrophoretic display.

33 . The display of claim 1 , wherein the two-terminal switching device comprises an inorganic semiconductor.

34 . A display, comprising: a plurality of pixel control circuits on a substrate, each circuit being configured to regulate emission of light from a pixel on the display, the substrate having melting point less than about 400° C.

35 . The display of claim 34 , wherein the substrate has a melting point less than about 300° C.

36 . The display of 34 , wherein the substrate has a melting point in a range of about 60° C. to 350° C.

37 . The display of 34 , wherein at least one of the substrates has a melting point in a range of about 60° C. to 300° C.

38 . The display of claim 34 , wherein the substrate includes a material selected from the group consisting of borosilicate glasses, sodalime glasses, mylar, PET (polyethylen terephthalate) and, polyimides.

39 . The display of claim 34 , wherein the pixel control circuits include an organic material serving as a semiconductor.

40 . The display of claim 34 , wherein the pixel control circuits include one or more electrodes that include an organic conductor.

41 . The display of claim 34 , wherein the pixels each include a pixel electrode connected to a pixel control circuit.

42 . A display, comprising: a liquid crystal positioned between substrates, at least one of the substrates having a melting point less than about 350° C.

43 . The display of 42 , wherein each of the substrates has a melting point less than about 300° C.

44 . The display of 42 , wherein at least one of the substrates has a melting point in a range of about 60° C. to 350° C.

45 . The display of 42 , wherein at least one of the substrates has a melting point in a range of about 60° C. to 300° C.

46 . The display of claim 42 , wherein at least one of the substrates includes a material selected from the group consisting of borosilicate glasses, sodalime glasses, mylar, PET (polyethylen terephthalate) and polyimides

47 . The display of claim 42 , wherein a plurality of pixel control circuits are positioned on one of the substrates, each pixel control circuit being to regulate emission of light from a pixel on the display and including an organic material serving as a semiconductor.

48 . The display of claim 42 , wherein a plurality of pixel control circuits are positioned on one of the substrates, each pixel control circuit being configured to regulate emission of light from a pixel on the display and including one or more electrodes that include an organic conductor.
