Methods and compositions for regulating memory consolidation
The present invention makes available methods and reagents for enhancing and/or restoring long-term memory function and performance.
. A method of improving memory in a human, comprising the step of administering a methamphetamine to a human having an impairment in memory in an amount effective to improve memory in the human, wherein the methamphetamine is administered as a component of a composition that includes at least about 90 mole percent 1-methamphetamine relative to the total methamphetamine content of the composition.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the impairment in memory is at least one member selected from the group consisting of an impairment in long term memory and an impairment in declarative memory.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the human has a memory impairment associated with a mild cognitive impairment.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the human has a memory impairment associated with Alzheimer's disease.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the human has a memory impairment associated with a brain aneurysm.
. The method of claim 5 , wherein the brain aneurysm is an anterior communicating artery brain aneurysm.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the human has a memory impairment associated with mental retardation.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the methamphetamine is administered in a single dose.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the methamphetamine is administered in multiple doses.
. A method of improving memory in a human, comprising the step of administering a methamphetamine to a human having an impairment in memory in an amount effective to improve memory consolidation in the human, wherein the methamphetamine is administered as a component of a composition that includes at least about 95 mole percent 1-methamphetamine relative to the total methamphetamine content of the composition.
. The method of claim 10 , wherein the impairment in memory is at least one member selected from the group consisting of an impairment in long term memory and an impairment in declarative memory.
. A method of improving memory in a human, comprising the step of administering a methamphetamine to a human having an impairment in memory associated with a mild cognitive impairment in an amount effective to improve memory in the human, wherein the methamphetamine is administered as a component of a composition that includes at least about 90 mole percent 1-methamphetamine relative to the total methamphetamine content of the composition.
. The method of claim 12 , wherein the impairment in memory is at least one member selected from the group consisting of an impairment in long term memory and an impairment in declarative memory.
. A method of improving memory in a human, comprising the step of administering a methamphetamine to a human having an impairment in memory associated with a brain aneurysm in an amount effective to improve memory in the human, wherein the methamphetamine is administered as a component of a composition that includes at least about 90 mole percent 1-methamphetamine relative to the total methamphetamine content of the composition.
. The method of claim 14 , wherein the impairment in memory is at least one member selected from the group consisting of an impairment in long term memory and an impairment in declarative memory.
. The method of claim 14 , wherein the brain aneurysm is an anterior communicating artery brain aneurysm.
. A method of improving memory in a human, comprising the step of administering a methamphetamine to a human having an impairment in memory associated with Alzheimer's disease in an amount effective to improve memory in the human, wherein the methamphetamine is administered as a component of a composition that includes at least about 90 mole percent 1-methamphetamine relative to the total methamphetamine content of the composition.
. The method of claim 17 , wherein the impairment in memory is at least one member selected from the group consisting of an impairment in long term memory and an impairment in declarative memory.
. A method of improving memory in a human, comprising the step of administering a methamphetamine to a human having an impairment in memory associated with mental retardation in an amount effective to improve memory in the human, wherein the methamphetamine is administered as a component of a composition that includes at least about 90 mole percent 1-methamphetamine relative to the total methamphetamine content of the composition.
. The method of claim 19 , wherein the impairment in memory is at least one member selected from the group consisting of an impairment in long term memory and an impairment in declarative memory.
. A method of improving memory in a human, comprising the steps of:
a) assessing impairment in memory in a human having an impairment in memory;
b) administering a methamphetamine to the human having an impairment in memory in an amount effective to improve memory in the human, wherein the methamphetamine is administered as a component of a composition that includes at least about 90 mole percent 1-methamphetamine relative to the total methamphetamine content of the composition; and
c) determining the improvement in memory after administering the methamphetamine to the human.
. The method of claim 21 , wherein the impairment in memory is at least one member selected from the group consisting of an impairment in long term memory and an impairment in declarative memory.
. The method of claim 21 , wherein the human has an impairment in memory associated with at least one member selected from the group consisting of a mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's disease, a brain aneurysm and mental retardation.
. The method of claim 21 , further including the step of comparing the impairment in memory in the human before administering the methamphetamine to the improvement in memory in the human after administering the methamphetamine.
