Abstract

Rotary axial peristaltic pumps, related methods and components. The rotary axial peristaltic pump generally comprises a platen having a platen surface, a tube positioned adjacent to the platen surface, cam that rotates about a rotational axis and has a cam surface that is spaced apart from the platen surface and a plurality of tube compressing fingers. The fingers move axially back and forth in sequence to sequentially compress segments or regions of the tube against the platen surface, thereby causing peristaltic movement of fluid through the tube. The fingers move back and forth on axes that are substantially parallel to the axis about which the cam rotates.

Claims (12)

1 - 51 . (canceled)

52 . A tubing cassette device that is useable in conjunction with a peristaltic pump, said tubing cassette device comprising:

a substantially rigid structure;

a plurality tube receiving members sized to receive and hold a tube within or adjacent to said structure;

a tube that is received in and held by said tube receiving members; and

at least one alignment surface that registers with at least one corresponding surface on the pumping device to cause the tubing cassette to be held in a desired alignment within the pumping device.

53 . A tubing cassette device according to claim 52 wherein the substantially rigid structure comprises a frame and the tube receiving members comprise a plurality of tube-holding members that extend transversely across the frame.

54 . A tubing cassette device according to claim 52 further comprising a platen disposed adjacent to the tube such that the tube may be compressed against the platen.

55 . A tubing cassette device according to claim 54 wherein the platen is attached to the frame.

56 . A tubing cassette device according to claim 52 wherein the tubing cassette device incorporates an identifying feature that is identifiable by the pumping device.

57 . The tubing cassette device according to claim 53 wherein the tube holding members protrude beyond the frame and register against corresponding surfaces in the pumping device to ensure desired alignment of the tubing cassette device in the pumping device.

58 - 80 . (canceled)
