Abstract

A method of recording Audio-Video Interleaved (AVI) files on a disc, comprising the steps of (a) allocating a predetermined amount of space on the disc as a reserved track, (b) encapsulating audio data and video data into corresponding audio chunks and video chunks to be recorded on the disc, (c) adding a first amount of padding to (i) create a first gap and (ii) position the first gap in relation to the audio chunks and the video chunks in response to completely recording all of the audio chunks and the video chunks, (d) recording data on the reserved track and (e) adding a second amount of padding to (i) create a second gap and (ii) position the second gap in relation to the audio chunks and the video chunks to allow the recording of the Audio-Video Interleaved file to be compliant with a predefined disc standard.

Claims (44)

1. A method of recording Audio-Video Interleaved (AVI) files on a disc, comprising the steps of:

(a) allocating a predetermined amount of space on said disc as a reserved track;

(b) encapsulating audio data and video data into corresponding audio chunks and video chunks to be recorded on said disc;

(c) adding a first amount of padding to (i) create a first gap and (ii) position said first gap in relation to said audio chunks and said video chunks in response to completely recording all of said audio chunks and said video chunks;

(d) recording data on said reserved track; and

(e) adding a second amount of padding to (i) create a second gap and (ii) position said second gap in relation to said audio chunks and said video chunks and (iii) allow the recording of said Audio-Video Interleaved file to be compliant with a predefined disc standard.

2. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising the steps of:

positioning said first gap before said audio chunks and said video chunks; and

positioning said second gap after said audio chunks and said video chunks, wherein said first gap and said second gap are different.

3. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising the steps of:

positioning said first gap after said audio chunks and said video chunks; and

positioning said second gap before said audio chunks and said video chunks.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein step (c) further comprises the step of:

adding said first amount of padding in proximity to a movi list chunk.

5. The method according to claim 4 , further comprising the step of:

adding said first amount of padding as a reserve chunk relative to said movi list chunk.

6. The method according to claim 5 , further comprising the step of:

adding said first amount of padding as a reserve chunk positioned within said movi list chunk.

7. The method according to claim 5 , further comprising the step of:

adding said first amount of padding as an independent chunk positioned after said movi list chunk.

8. The method according to claim 4 , further comprising the step of:

calculating a list size of said movi list chunk in response to completely recording all of said audio chunks and said video chunks.

9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein step (e) further comprises the step of:

adding said first amount of padding to (i) create said second gap and (ii) position said first amount of padding after said audio chunks and said video chunks and within an index chunk.

10. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said data comprises a Resource Interchange File Format (RIFF) header, an Audio-Video Interleaved header a movi list size and said first amount of padding.

11. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said predefined disc standard is a predefined optical disc standard.

12. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said disc is selected from a group consisting of a write-once, erasable, and fully re-writable media.

13. A non-transitory computer readable medium containing processor executable instructions configured to perform the steps of:

(a) allocating a predetermined amount of space on a disc as a reserved track;

(b) encapsulating audio data and video data into corresponding audio chunks and video chunks to be recorded on said disc;

(c) adding a first amount of padding to (i) create a first gap and (ii) position said first gap in relation to said audio chunks and said video chunks in response to completely recording all of said audio chunks and said video chunks;

(d) recording data on said reserved track; and

(e) adding a second amount of padding to (i) create a second gap and (ii) position said second gap in relation to said audio chunks and said video chunks and (iii) allow the recording of an Audio-Video Interleaved file to be compliant with a predefined disc standard.

14. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the AVI file is recorded in realtime on a (i) write once and rewritable Blu Disc and (ii) a write once and rewritable HD-DVD.

15. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the AVI file is recorded and formatted on said disc as a contiguous file on any form of data-persistent media.

16. The method according to claim 5 , wherein said reserved chunk is defined as being selected from the group consisting of a junk chunk, a hypothetical audio chunk, a hypothetical video chunk, and a data chunk.

17. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said first gap and said second gap are defined as an unrecorded space between two tracks of said disc.

18. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said predefined disc standard is a write once media disc standard.

19. An apparatus comprising:

means for allocating a predetermined amount of space on a disc as a reserved track;

means for encapsulating audio data and video data into corresponding audio chunks and video chunks to be recorded on said disc;

means for adding a first amount of padding to (i) create a first gap and (ii) position said first gap in relation to said audio chunks and said video chunks in response to completely recording all of said audio chunks and said video chunks;

means for recording data on said reserved track; and

means for adding a second amount of padding to (i) create a second gap and (ii) position said second gap in relation to said audio chunks and said video chunks to allow the recording of an Audio-Video Interleaved file to be compliant with a predefined disc standard.
