Abstract

A nursing cover is described, including a fabric having a top edge, a bottom edge, and a first side edge and a second side edge, wherein a strap is coupled to the top edge of the fabric and a plurality of D-rings are coupled using another strap to the top edge of the fabric, and a stiffener stitched into the top edge of the fabric, the stiffener having a first end cap coupled on a first end of the stiffener and a second end cap formed on a second end of the stiffener, wherein the stiffener, when worn, bows the fabric outward to provide a viewing area.

Claims (26)

1. A nursing cover, comprising:

a fabric having a top edge, a bottom edge, and a first side edge and a second side edge, wherein a strap is coupled to the top edge of the fabric and a plurality of D-rings are coupled using another strap to the top edge of the fabric, the D-rings being secured in a loop sewn at a distal end of the another strap, the strap and the another strap being configured to couple together using the plurality of D-rings to secure and adjust the cover, wherein another distal end of the strap is configured to be threaded about the plurality of D-rings disposed in the loop sewn at the distal end of the another strap; and

a stiffener stitched into the top edge of the fabric, the stiffener having a first end cap coupled on a first end of the stiffener and a second end cap formed on a second end of the stiffener, wherein the stiffener, when worn, bows the fabric outward to provide a viewing area, the stiffener having a substantially rectangular cross-sectional shape wherein the first end cap and the second end cap each comprise a substantially rectangular cavity that is configured to receive the first end and the second end of the stiffener, respectively, wherein the stiffener has a material memory associated with a pre-determined shape, the stiffener assuming the pre-determined shape during a resting state and, when a force is applied, the stiffener is configured to temporarily deform and, when the force is removed, the stiffener reassumes the pre-determined shape.

2. The nursing cover of claim 1 , wherein the first end cap is coupled to the first end by sewing the first end cap to the first end.

3. The nursing cover of claim 1 , wherein the second end cap is coupled to the second end by sewing the second end cap to the second end.

4. The nursing cover of claim 1 , wherein the first end cap is coupled to the first end by stitching the first end cap to the stiffener.

5. The nursing cover of claim 1 , wherein the second end cap is coupled to the second end by stitching the second end cap to the stiffener.

6. The nursing cover of claim 1 , wherein the stiffener is disposed within a pocket of the sheet, the pocket being located along the top edge.

7. The nursing cover of claim 1 , wherein the first end cap and the second end cap have a smooth outer surface.

8. The nursing cover of claim 1 , wherein the first end cap and the second end cap provide a non-abrading outer surface over the first end and the second end of the stiffener.

9. A nursing cover, comprising:

a sheet having a plurality of edges, wherein a proximal end of a first strap is stitched to an edge of the plurality of edges and another proximal end of a second strap is stitched to the edge, wherein a distal end of the first strap and another distal end of the second strap are configured to be coupled together when worn, using a plurality of D-rings to secure the distal end of the first strap to the another distal end of the second strap, wherein the plurality of D-rings are secured in a loop sewn at the another distal end of the second strap, and the distal end of the first strap is configured to be threaded about the plurality of D-rings disposed in the loop sewn at the another distal end of the another strap; and

a stiffener disposed in a pocket stitched within the edge, the stiffener reinforcing the edge and providing a bowing shape for the cover, wherein a first end cap is disposed at a first end of the stiffener and a second end cap is disposed at a second end of the stiffener, the first end cap and the second end cap being coupled to the first end and the second end of the stiffener, respectively, the stiffener having a substantially rectangular cross-sectional shape wherein the first end cap comprises a substantially rectangular cavity and the second end cap comprises another substantially rectangular cavity, which are configured to receive the first end and the second end of the stiffener, respectively, wherein the stiffener has a material memory associated with a pre-determined shape, the stiffener assuming the pre-determined shape during a resting state and, when a force is applied, the stiffener is configured to temporarily deform and, when the force is removed, the stiffener reassumes the pre-determined shape.

10. The nursing cover of claim 9 , wherein the first end cap and the second end cap are coupled to the first end and the second end of the stiffener, respectively, using an adhesive.

11. The nursing cover of claim 9 , wherein the first end cap and the second end cap are coupled to the first end and the second end of the stiffener, respectively, using a fiber.

12. The nursing cover of claim 9 , wherein the first end cap and the second end cap are coupled to the first end and the second end of the stiffener, respectively, by melting the first end cap and the second cap to the stiffener.

13. The nursing cover of claim 9 , wherein the first end cap and the second end cap are coupled to the first end and the second end of the stiffener, respectively, using a connector.

14. A nursing cover, comprising:

a wrap having a top edge, a bottom edge, and a first side edge and a second side edge, wherein a first strap and a second strap are coupled to the top edge of the sheet, the first strap and the second strap being coupled together when the wrap is worn; and

a stiffener disposed within a substantially horizontal pocket disposed near the top edge of the sheet, the stiffener having a first end cap coupled to a first end of the stiffener and a second end cap coupled to a second end of the stiffener, wherein the stiffener, when the wrap is worn, bows outward to provide a gap between a wearer and the wrap, the stiffener having a substantially rectangular cross-sectional shape wherein the first end cap comprises a substantially rectangular cavity and the second end cap comprises another substantially rectangular cavity, which are configured to receive the first end and the second end of the stiffener, respectively, wherein the stiffener has a material memory associated with a pre-determined shape, the stiffener assuming the pre-determined shape during a resting state and, when a force is applied, the stiffener is configured to temporarily deform and, when the force is removed, the stiffener reassumes the pre-determined shape.

15. The nursing cover of claim 14 , wherein the first end cap is coupled to the first end by applying heat to melt the first end cap to the stiffener.

16. The nursing cover of claim 14 , wherein the second end cap is coupled to the second end by applying heat to melt the second end cap to the stiffener.

17. The nursing cover of claim 14 , wherein the first end cap is coupled to the first end using a connector.
