Abstract

Polymers grafted with a compound of formula I, wherein the general symbols are as defined within, have outstanding stability against oxidative, thermal, dynamic, light-induced and/or ozone-induced degradation.

Claims (94)

1. A compound of formula I

wherein, when n is 0,

R is

 or a radical of formula III, IV, V, VI, VIII or IX

when n is 1,

R is

when n is 2,

R is

when n is 3,

R is

R 1 is C 1 -C 25 alkyl,

 or C 2 -C 18 hydroxyalkyl,

R 2 is C 1 -C 25 alkyl,

 C 2 -C 18 hydroxyalkyl or a radical of formula III or IX,

R 5 is C 1 -C 12 alkylene, or C 2 -C 12 alkylene interrupted by oxygen,

R 6 , R 7 and R 8 are each independently of the others hydrogen, C 1 -C 12 alkyl, C 2 -C 12 alkyl interrupted by oxygen or by sulfur; or C 3 -C 12 alkenyl,

R 9 is hydrogen, C 1 -C 8 alkyl, C 5 -C 8 cycloalkyl, C 7 -C 9 phenylalkyl or phenyl,

R 10 is C 1 -C 8 alkyl, C 5 -C 8 cycloalkyl, C 7 -C 9 phenylalkyl, phenyl,

R 12 is a direct bond or unsubstituted or C 1 -C 4 alkyl-substituted C 1 -C 8 alkylene,

R 13 is C 1 -C 8 alkylene or

R 14 is hydrogen or C 1 -C 4 alkyl,

R 15 is C 1 -C 4 alkylene,

R 16 is hydrogen, cyclohexyl or C 3 -C 12 alkyl,

R 17 is C 1 -C 8 alkylene or

R 18 is hydrogen or C 1 -C 12 alkyl,

R 21 is

R 22 is a direct bond or C 1 -C 8 alkylene,

R 23 is C 1 -C 8 alkylene,

R 24 is C 1 -C 25 alkyl, C 2 -C 25 alkanoyl,

R 25 is C 2 -C 18 alkylene or C 2 -C 18 alkylene interrupted by oxygen or by sulfur,

R 26 and R 27 are each independently of the other hydrogen, CF 3 , C 1 -C 12 alkyl or phenyl, or R 26 and R 27 , together with the carbon atom to which they are bonded, form a C 5 -C 8 cycloalkylidene ring that is unsubstituted or substituted by from 1 to 3 C 1 -C 4 alkyl groups,

R 28 is C 1 -C 8 alkyl,

R 29 is C 1 -C 12 alkylene,

R 30 is C 1 -C 8 alkylene,

R 31 is C 1 -C 25 alkyl,

R 32 , R 33 , R 34 and R 35 are each independently of the others C 1 -C 8 alkyl; or the radicals R 32 and R 33 or the radicals R 34 and R 35 , together with the carbon atom to which they are bonded, form a C 5 -C u cycloalkylidene ring,

R 36 is hydrogen, C 1 -C 18 alkyl, C 3 -C 6 alkenyl, C 3 -C 6 alkynyl, C 7 -C 12 phenylalkyl, C 1 -C 8 acyl, C 1 -C 18 alkoxy, C 1 -C 18 hydroxyalkoxy, C 2 -C 1 olkenyloxy or C 5 -C 12 cycloalkoxy,

R 37 is C 1 -C 4 alkylene, sulfur or C 2 -C 8 alkylidene,

R 38 is hydrogen, C 1 -Colkyl, C 5 -C 8 cycloalkyl or phenyl,

R 39 is hydrogen, halogen, —SO—C 1 -C 25 alkyl or —SO 2 —C 1 -C 25 alkyl,

R 40 is hydrogen, C 1 -C 8 alkyl or phenyl,

R 41 is a direct bond, or unsubstituted or C 1 -C 4 alkyl-substituted C 1 -C 8 alkylene,

R 42 is hydrogen, C 1 -C 8 alkyl, C 5 -C 8 cycloalkyl or C 7 -C 9 phenylalkyl,

m is 0, 1 or 2,

n is 0, 1, 2 or 3, and

p is 1 or 2;

with the proviso that, when n is 0, R is a radical of formula V, R 17 is

 and R 22 and R 23 are methylene, then R 24 is other than hydrogen.

2. A compound according to claim 1 , wherein,

when n is 0,

R is

 or a radical of formula III, IV, V, VI, VIII or IX;

when n is 1,

when n is 2,

when n is 3,

R 1 is C 4 -C 18 alkyl,

 or C 2 -C 8 hydroxyalkyl,

R 2 is C 4 -C 18 alkyl,

 C 2 -C 8 hydroxyalkyl or a radical of formula III or IX,

R 5 is C 1 -C 8 alkylene,

R 6 , R 7 and R 8 are each independently of the others hydrogen, C 1 -C 8 alkyl or C 3 -C 8 alkenyl,

R 9 is C 1 -C 5 alkyl, cyclohexyl or C 7 -C 9 phenylalkyl,

R 10 is C 1 -C 8 alkyl, cyclohexyl, C 7 -C 9 phenylalkyl,

R 12 is C 1 -C 8 alkylene;

R 13 is C 1 -C 8 alkylene or

R 14 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl,

R 15 is C 1 -C 4 alkylene,

R 16 is C 3 -C 8 alkyl,

R 17 is C 1 -C 8 alkylene or

R 18 is hydrogen or C 1 -C 8 alkyl,

R 21 is

R 22 is C 1 -C 6 alkylene,

R 23 is C 1 -C 6 alkylene,

R 24 is C 1 -C 12 alkyl, C 2 -C 12 alkanoyl,

R 25 is C 2 -C 8 alkylene,

R 26 and R 27 are each independently of the other hydrogen or C 1 -C 4 alkyl, or R 26 and R 27 , together with the carbon atom to which they are bonded, form a cyclohexylidene ring,

R 28 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl

R 29 is C 1 -C 4 alkylene,

R 30 is C 1 -C 4 alkylene,

R 31 is C 4 -C 18 alkyl,

R 32 , R 33 , R 34 and R 35 are each independently of the others C 1 -C 4 alkyl; or the radicals R 32 and R 33 or the radicals R 34 and R 35 , together with the carbon atom to which they are bonded, form a cyclohexylidene ring,

R 36 is hydrogen, C 1 -C 8 alkyl, benzyl, C 1 -C 3 acyl, C 1 -C 8 alkoxy, C 2 -C 8 hydroxyalkoxy, C 3 -C 8 alkenyloxy or cyclohexyloxy,

R 37 is C 1 -C 4 alkylene or C 2 -C 4 alkylidene,

R 38 is hydrogen, C 1 -C 4 alkyl or cyclohexyl,

R 39 is hydrogen, chlorine, —SO—C 1 -C 12 alkyl or —SO 2 —C 1 -C 12 alkyl,

R 40 is hydrogen or C 1 -C 4 alkyl,

R 41 is C 1 -C 8 alkylene,

R 42 is C 1 -C 8 alkyl, cyclohexyl or C 7 -C 9 phenylalkyl,

m is 0, 1 or 2,

n is 0, 1, 2 or 3, and

p is 1 or 2.
