Antibodies against IL-16 antagonist peptides
The present invention has found that a series of peptides having sequences that substantially correspond to specific regions of the C-terminus of IL-16 can inhibit the activity of IL-16. The present invention has demonstrated that such IL-16-inhibiting peptides can be as short as 4 amino acid in length. Based on these discoveries, the present invention provides IL-16 antagonist peptides and the use thereof for the treatment of IL-16 mediated disorders such as certain inflammatory diseases.
1. An isolated antibody directed to an IL-16 peptide, wherein said peptide consists of fewer than 16 amino acids and is identical with a fragment of human IL-16 as set forth in SEQ ID NO: 39, said peptide comprising a sequence selected from the group consisting of RRKS (SEQ ID NO: 2), VIRR (SEQ ID NO: 9) and IRRK (SEQ ID NO: 13), and wherein said antibody antagonizes at least one IL-16-mediated biological activity.
2. The antibody of claim 1 , wherein said peptide comprises a sequence selected from the group consisting of RRLKS (SEQ ID NO:2), RRKSLQ (SEQ ID NO:17), and RRKSLQSK (SEQ ID NO:24).
3. The antibody of claim 2 , wherein said peptide consists of a sequence selected from RRKSLQ (SEQ ID NO:17) or RRKSLQSK (SEQ ID NO:24).
