SUTURE AND METHOD FOR USING SAME
Provided herein is a braided suture that includes at least three strands. At least one of the strands is comprised of a fiberoptic material. In a preferred embodiment, more than one of the strands is comprised of a fiberoptic material. Also provided is a method of suturing. The method includes the steps of providing a braided suture comprising at least three strands, wherein at least one of the strands is comprised of a fiberoptic material, connecting the suture to a threading device, placing the suture at a predetermined location on a patient's body, and using a light source to illuminate the fiberoptic strand.
1 . A braided suture comprising at least three strands, wherein at least one of the strands is comprised of a fiberoptic material.
2 . The suture of claim 1 wherein at least one of the strands is comprised of a non-fiberoptic material.
3 . The suture of claim 2 wherein the non-fiberoptic material is nylon.
4 . The suture of claim 1 wherein all three of the strands are comprised of a fiberoptic material.
5 . The suture of claim 1 wherein at least two of the at least three strands are comprised of a fiberoptic material.
6 . A method of suturing comprising the steps of:
a. providing a braided suture comprising at least three strands, wherein at least one of the strands is comprised of a fiberoptic material,
b. connecting the suture to a threading device,
c. placing the suture at a predetermined location on a patient's body, and
d. using a light source to illuminate the fiberoptic strand.
