Abstract

Described are peptides and peptide mimetics that bind to and activate the thrombopoietin receptor. Such peptides and peptide mimetics are useful in methods for treating hematological disorders and particularly, thrombocytopenia resulting from chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or bone marrow transfusions as well as in diagnostic methods employing labeled peptides and peptide mimetics.

Claims (7)

1. A compound that binds to a TPO receptor, wherein said compound comprises a core peptide having the following sequence IEGPTLRQWLAARA (SEQ ID NO: 13).

2. A pharmaceutical composition comprising an effective amount of the compound of claim 1 in admixture with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

3. The compound of claim 1 , wherein said core peptide is dimerized.

4. The compound of claim 1 , wherein said core peptide is covalently attached to a detectable label.

5. The compound of claim 1 , further comprising a linkage attached to said core peptide.

6. The compound of claim 5 , wherein said linkage is attached to the N-terminus of said core peptide.

7. The compound of claim 5 , wherein said linkage is attached to the C-terminus of said core peptide.
