Abstract

Methods and compositions for enhancing the score of an individual in a sport activity are disclosed.

Claims (20)

1. A method of enhancing performance of an individual in a bowling activity, comprising:

administering to the individual for inhalation an effective amount of a composition comprising a suprathreshold but non-irritant concentration of a jasmine odorant as a primary odor while performing the bowling activity such that a bowling score of the individual is improved by a statistically significant amount compared to a control score determined by the individual's bowling score when said bowling activity is performed without inhalation of the composition, the concentration of the jasmine odorant being, greater than an average normal threshold concentration of the jasmine odorant and about 25-55 decismel units; and

assessing said bowling score to determine effectiveness of administering the composition to enhance the performance of the individual in the bowling activity.

2. A method of increasing a bowling score of an individual, comprising:

administering to the individual for inhalation an effective amount of a composition comprising a suprathreshold but non-irritant concentration of a jasmine odorant as a primary odor while bowling such that, upon bowling a set number of frames, the individual's score is higher than a control score determined by the individual's score after bowling said set number of frames without inhalation of the composition by a statistically significant amount, the concentration of the jasmine odorant being about 25-55 decismel units and greater than an average normal threshold concentrating of the jasmine odorant; and

assessing effectivness of administering the composition to increase the bowling score compared to the control score of the individual.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, prior to administering the composition, administering a series of odorants to the individual to test olfactory ability.

The method of claim 1 , further comprising, prior to administering the composition, administering a series of odorant dilutions to the individual to test olfactory threshold, and adjusting the concentration of the odorants to provide a suprathreshold but non-irritant concentration of at least one odorant in the composition.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, prior to administering the composition, screening the composition for effectiveness in enhancing the individual's performance of the bowling activity, the screening comprising:

a) having the individual perform the bowling activity without inhalation of the composition and tallying the score to provide a “control score”;

b) having the individual re-perform the bowling activity from step a) while inhaling a suprathreshold and but non-irritant concentration of the composition, and tallying the score to provide a “test score”;

c) comparing the control score to the test score to determine the statistical significance between the two scores; and

d) assessing the composition as effective to enhance performance of the individual in the bowling activity based upon the statistical significance of the test score.

6. A method of enhancing performance of an individual in a bowling activity, comprising:

administering to the individual for inhalation an effective amount of a composition consisting essentially of a jasmine odorant in a carrier while performing the bowling activity, the jasmine odorant being at a suprathreshold but non-irritant concentration at about 25-55 decisimel units and greater than an avereage normal threshhold concentration of the jasmine odorant;

assesing effectiveness of administering the composition to increase the bowling score of the individual by a statistically significant amount compared to a control score determined by the individual's bowling score when said bowling activity is performed without inhalation of the composition.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the individual's bowling score of a set number of frames is increased by a statistically significant amount compared to the control score from bowling said set number of frames without inhaling the composition.

8. A method of enhancing performance of an individual in a bowling activity, comprising:

administering to the individual for inhalation an effective amount of a composition while performing the bowling activity, the composition comprising a mixture of odorants in a carrier, said mixture of odorants comprising a suprathreshold and non-irritant concentration of a jasmine odorant in combination with a less than suprathreshold concentration of one or more odorants that complement and do not mask the jasmine odorant, the jasmine odorant being at a suprathreshold but non-irritant concentration at about 25-55 decismel units and greater than an average normal threshold concentration of the jasmine odorant,

assessing effectiveness of administering the composition to increase the bowling score of the individual by a statistically significant amount compared to the control score of the individual determined by performing said bowling activity without inhalation of the composition.
