Abstract

A composition for enhanced bioavailability of curcumin having isolated curcuminoid and isolated essential oil of turmeric. A method to prepare a composition for enhanced bioavailability of curcumin having isolated curcuminoid and isolated essential oil of turmeric.

Claims (11)

1. A composition for enhanced bioavailability of curcumin comprising a curcuminoid mixture and added essential oil of turmeric, wherein the weight ratio of the curcuminoid mixture to the added essential oil of turmeric ranges from about 3:1 to about 99:1, wherein the curcuminoid mixture consists of curcumin, demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin, wherein the composition for enhanced bioavailability of curcumin shows about a 5 fold to about a 16 fold enhancement of bioavailability of curcumin as compared to a second composition comprising the curcuminoid mixture without the added essential oil of turmeric, and wherein the essential oil of turmeric comprises about 45% ar-turmerone.

2. The composition for enhanced bioavailability of curcumin of claim 1 , wherein the percentage of curcumin in the curcuminoid mixture is about 95%.

3. The composition for enhanced bioavailability of curcumin of claim 1 , wherein the weight ratio of the curcuminoid mixture to the added essential oil of turmeric is about 10:1.

4. The composition for enhanced bioavailability of curcumin of claim 1 , wherein the weight ratio of the curcuminoid mixture to the added essential oil of turmeric is about 85:15.

5. The composition for enhanced bioavailability of curcumin of claim 1 , wherein the weight ratio of the curcuminoid mixture to the added essential oil of turmeric is about 92:8.

6. The composition for enhanced bioavailability of curcumin of claim 1 , wherein the weight ratio of the curcuminoid mixture to the added essential oil is about 95:5.

7. The composition for enhanced bioavailability of curcumin of claim 1 , wherein the composition is in a dosage form suitable for oral administration.

8. The composition for enhanced bioavailability of curcumin of claim 7 , wherein the dosage form is a gelatin capsule.

9. The composition for enhanced bioavailability of curcumin of claim 8 , wherein the gelatin capsule comprises 500 mg of a blend comprising the curcuminoid mixture and the added essential oil of turmeric, wherein the added essential oil of turmeric comprises ar-turmerone, wherein the curcuminoid mixture in the blend ranges from about 300 mg to about 460 mg.

10. The composition for enhanced bioavailability of claim 1 , wherein the weight ratio of the curcuminoid mixture to the added essential oil of turmeric ranges from about 3:1 to about 95:5.

11. The composition for enhanced bioavailability of claim 1 , wherein, the composition comprises about 5% of the essential oil of turmeric.
