Abstract

The present invention relates to the use of compounds of general formula (I) as ligands to the melanocortin receptors and/or for treatment of disorders in the melanocortin system: wherein X is H or OH; R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 are the same or different and are selected from hydrogen, halogen, alkyl having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, electron donor groups such as alkoxy having 1-5 carbon atoms or hydroxy, electron acceptor groups selected from cyano, nitro, trifluoroalkyl or amide; alkylamino, benzoyloxy, nitroxy, phenyl or sulpho; and the pharmacologically active salts thereof.

Claims (12)

1. A method of treating rheumatoid arthritis, comprising administering an effective amount of N-(2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxybenzylideneamino)guanidine, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, to a patient in need thereof.

2. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable salt is N-(2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxybenzylideneamino)-guanidine acetate.

3. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the N-(2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxybenzylideneamino)guanidine or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof is present in a pharmaceutical composition together with one or more adjuvants, carriers or excipients.

4. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the N-(2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxybenzylideneamino)guanidine acetate is present in a pharmaceutical composition together with one or more adjuvants, carriers or excipients.

5. A method of treating inflammation, wherein the inflammation is caused by rheumatoid arthritis, comprising administering an effective amount of N-(2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxybenzylideneamino)guanidine, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, to a patient in need thereof.

6. The method as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable salt is N-(2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxybenzylideneamino)guanidine acetate.

7. The method as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the N-(2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxybenzylideneamino)guanidine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is present in a pharmaceutical composition together with one or more adjuvants, carriers or excipients.

8. The method as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the N-(2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxybenzylideneamino)guanidine acetate is present in a pharmaceutical composition together with one or more adjuvants, carriers or excipients.

9. A method of treating pain, wherein the pain is caused by rheumatoid arthritis, comprising administering an effective amount of N-(2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxybenzylideneamino)guanidine, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, to a patient in need thereof.

10. The method as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable salt is N-(2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxybenzylideneamino) guanidine acetate.

11. The method as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the N-(2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxybenzylideneamino)guanidine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is present in a pharmaceutical composition together with one or more adjuvants, carriers or excipients.

12. The method as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the N-(2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxybenzylideneamino)guanidine acetate is present in a pharmaceutical composition together with one or more adjuvants, carriers or excipients.
