Abstract

Method and peptide for regulating cellular activity includes a panel of synthesized peptides that have biological effects on inhibiting or enhancing cellular activity. Selected peptides can be used as therapy to reduce and/or inhibit, or initiate and/or enhance, an inflammatory response in a subject.

Claims (19)

1. A method of inhibiting Toll Like Receptor (TLR)-induced cytokine secretion comprising: administering to a subject in need thereof, an effective amount of a peptide consisting of the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 13; thereby inhibiting Toll Like Receptor (TLR)-induced cytokine secretion.

2. A method of inhibiting Toll Like Receptor (TLR)-induced cytokine secretion, comprising: administering to a subject in need thereof, an effective amount of a peptide consisting of the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 13 and a transducing sequence; thereby inhibiting Toll Like Receptor (TLR)-induced cytokine secretion.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the peptide is SEQ ID NO: 20.

4. A method of reducing or inhibiting Toll Like Receptor (TLR)-induced inflammation, comprising: administering to a subject in need thereof, an effective amount of:

a) a peptide consisting of the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 13, or

b) an effective amount of a peptide consisting of the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 13 and a transducing sequence; thereby reducing or inhibiting Toll Like Receptor (TLR)-induced inflammation.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein an effective amount of a peptide consisting of the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 13 and a transducing sequence is administered.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the peptide is SEQ ID NO: 20.

7. The method of claim 4 , wherein inflammation is caused by a bacteria.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the bacteria is Streptococcus pneumoniae.

9. The method of claim 5 , wherein the subject has otitis media.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein: TLR is one or more of TLR 2, TLR3, TLR4, TLR5 and TLR9.

11. The method of claim 2 , wherein: TLR is one or more of TLR 2, TLR3, TLR4, TLR5 and TLR9.

12. The method of claim 4 , wherein: TLR is one or more of TLR 2, TLR3, TLR4, TLR5 and TLR9.

13. The method of claim 4 , wherein TLR is TLR2.

14. The method of claim 4 , wherein TLR is TLR3.

15. The method of claim 4 , wherein TLR is TLR4.

16. The method of claim 4 , wherein TLR is TLR5.

17. The method of claim 4 , wherein TLR is TLR9.
