Pharmaceutical compositions and methods relating to inhibiting fibrous adhesions or inflammatory disease using low sulphate fucans
Compositions and methods involving administration of agents useful for the treatment, prevention, inhibition, etc., of inflammatory disease or fibrous adhesions using low sulphate fucans and, if desired, one or more other anti-inflammatory disease or anti-fibrous adhesion agent.
1 . A method of inhibiting a fibrous adhesion in an animal comprising selecting an agent to inhibit the fibrous adhesion and administering a therapeutically effective amount of the agent to a site suspected of having the fibrous adhesion, wherein the agent comprises low sulphate fucan.
2 . A method of inhibiting an inflammatory disease in an animal comprising selecting an agent to inhibit the inflammatory disease and administering a therapeutically effective amount of the agent to a site suspected of having the inflammatory disease, wherein the agent comprises low sulphate fucan.
3 . The method of claim 1 wherein the drug is substantially continuously administered to the disease site via controlled release from a polymeric dosage form.
4 . The method of claim 3 wherein the polymeric dosage form comprises a film, patch, paste, microsphere, implant, gel, spray or liquid.
5 . The method of claim 1 wherein the drug is substantially delivered to the disease site as a solution or suspension.
6 . The method of claim 1 wherein the low sulphate fucan is in the form of an instillate.
7 . The method of claim 1 wherein the site is a surgical site.
8 . The method of claim 1 wherein the site is within the abdomen of the animal.
9 . The method of claim 1 wherein the site is within a limb of the animal.
10 . The method of claim 1 wherein the site is within a spine of the animal.
11 . The method of claim 1 wherein the site is within the reproductive tract of the animal.
12 . The method of claim 1 wherein the site is within the cardiovascular system.
13 . The method of claim 1 wherein the site is a pelvic inflammatory disease site.
14 . The method of claim 1 wherein the animal is a human being.
15 . The method of claim 1 wherein the low sulphate fucan has a sulphate to fucose ratio of less than or equal to 1.8.
16 . The method of claim 1 wherein the low sulphate fucan has a sulphate to fucose ratio of less than about 1.4.
17 . The method of claim 1 wherein the low sulphate fucan has a sulphate to fucose ratio of less than about 1.1.
18 . The method of claim 1 wherein the low sulphate fucan has a sulphate to fucose ratio of less than about 1.0.
19 . The method of claim 1 wherein the low sulphate fucan has a sulphate to fucose ratio of less than about 0.9.
20 . The method of claim 1 wherein the low sulphate fucan is low sulphate fucoidan.
