Abstract

A carrier strip system includes a plurality of discrete carrier strips respectively receptive of fasteners of substantially different dimensions the strips having internal features configured to engage the fasteners, the strips further having substantially identical external dimensions said external dimensions being substantially symmetrical with respect to a virtual surface defined by inclusion of axes of the plurality of discrete fasteners, and the external dimensions being engagable with a single setting tool magazine such that fasteners with different dimensions have consistent alignment within a single setting tool magazine and method.

Claims (14)

1. A carrier strip system comprising:

a plurality of discrete carrier strips respectively receptive of fasteners of substantially different dimensions each carrier strip of the plurality of discrete carrier strips having one or more openings configured to engage a fastener, each opening having an axis, said plurality of discrete carrier strips further having substantially identical external dimensions said external dimensions being substantially laterally symmetrical about axes of the plurality of discrete fasteners relative to a longitudinal axis of the carrier strip that extends through the plurality of discrete fasteners, said external dimensions being engagable with a single setting tool magazine such that fasteners with different dimensions have consistent alignment within a single setting tool magazine.

2. The carrier strip system of claim 1 , wherein each carrier strip of the plurality of discrete carrier strips further comprises a head-end break-free strip and a point-end break-free strip.

3. The carrier strip system of claim 2 , wherein the one or more openings are configured to engage fasteners wherein a point of the fasteners is located within the point-end break-free strip.

4. The carrier strip system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more openings that engage fasteners are internal diameters.

5. The carrier strip system of claim 4 , wherein a portion of the internal diameters less than the complete internal diameters are engagable with the fasteners.

6. The carrier strip system of claim 5 , wherein a head-end break-free strip engages a first diameter of a fastener and a point-end break-free strip engages a second diameter.

7. The carrier strip system of claim 6 , wherein the first diameter and the second diameter are different diameters.

8. The carrier strip system of claim 4 , wherein the fasteners have a plurality of diameters.

9. The carrier strip system of claim 6 , wherein the first diameter is larger than the second diameter.

10. The carrier strip system of claim 6 , wherein at least a portion of one of the first diameter and the second diameter varies over an axial dimension of the fastener.

11. The carrier strip system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more openings are configured to engage fasteners of substantially different lengths.

12. The carrier strip system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more openings are configured to engage fasteners of substantially different diameters.

13. The carrier strip system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more openings are configured to frictionally engage the fasteners.
