Abstract

The present invention relates to a diffusion plate used in a direct-type backlight module and a method for making the same. At least one of the surfaces of the diffusion plate has a microstructure constituted by repeated undulation that can refract and diffuse the incident light beams that enter the diffusion plate. Therefore, the paths of the light beams after entering the diffusion plate are changed, which raises the luminance of the backlight module.

Claims (25)

1. A method for making a diffusion plate used in a direct-type backlight module, comprising the steps of:

(a) providing a plastic material comprising a body material and a lower layer material, the body material having a first refractive index, the lower layer material having a third refractive index, the first refractive index being larger than the third refractive index, the body material being disposed over the lower layer material;

(b) providing an upper rolling wheel and a lower wheel, wherein both wheels have repeated undulation on the surface thereof; and

(c) corolling the body material and the lower layer material to form a diffusion plate, wherein the body material has a top surface, the lower layer material has a bottom surface, the bottom surface has a first microstructure, the top surface has a second microstructure, the first microstructure and the second microstructure respectively corresponding to the rolling wheels.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the repeated undulation in step (b) is constituted by a plurality of parallel or cross extrusions.

3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the shape of the extrusions is circular.

4. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the shape of the extrusions is rectangular.

5. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising a step of curing the diffusion plate.

6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first and second microstructures are different from each other.

7. A method for making a diffusion plate used in a direct-type backlight module, comprising the steps of:

(a) providing a plastic material comprising a body material and a upper layer material, the body material having a first refractive index, the upper layer material having a fourth refractive index, the first refractive index being larger than the fourth refractive index, the body material being disposed under the upper layer material;

(b) providing an upper rolling wheel and a lower wheel, wherein both wheels have repeated undulation on the surface thereof; and

(c) corolling the body material and the upper layer material to form a diffusion plate, wherein the body material has a bottom surface, the upper layer material has a top surface, the bottom surface has a first microstructure, the top surface has a second microstructure, the first microstructure and the second microstructure correspond to the rolling wheels.

8. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the repeated undulation in step (b) is constituted by a plurality of parallel or cross extrusions.

9. The method according to claim 8 , wherein the shape of the extrusions is circular.

10. The method according to claim 8 , wherein the shape of the extrusions is rectangular.

11. The method according to claim 7 , further comprising a step of curing the diffusion plate.

12. A method for making a diffusion plate used in a direct-type backlight module, comprising the steps of:

(a) providing a plastic material comprising a body material, a upper layer material and a lower layer material, the body material having a first refractive index, the upper layer material having a fourth refractive index, the lower layer material having a third refractive index, the first refractive index being larger than the third and fourth refractive index, the body material being disposed between the lower layer material and the upper layer material;

(b) providing an upper rolling wheel and a lower wheel, wherein both wheels have repeated undulation on the surface thereof; and

(c) corolling the body material, the upper layer material and the lower layer material to form a diffusion plate, wherein the lower layer material has a bottom surface, the upper layer material has a top surface, the bottom surface has a first microstructure, the top surface has a second microstructure, the first microstructure and the second microstructure correspond to the rolling wheels.

13. The method according to claim 12 , wherein the repeated undulation in step (b) is constituted by a plurality of parallel or cross extrusions.

14. The method according to claim 13 , wherein the shape of the extrusions is circular.

15. The method according to claim 13 , wherein the shape of the extrusions is rectangular.

16. The method according to claim 12 , further comprising a step of curing the diffusion plate.
