Abstract

Compositions that include extracts from sources of immune modulators that include nanofraction immune modulator molecules (i.e., molecules having molecular weights of about 3,000 Da and less) are disclosed. These compositions may also include other immune modulators, such as transfer factor. Administration of compositions with extracts that include nanofraction immune modulator molecules modulates the cell-mediated immunity (e.g., down-regulates undesired T cell activity) of a subject to which such compositions are administered. When administered with transfer factor, the combination of nanofraction immune modulator molecules and transfer factor down-regulates undesired T cell activity while increasing, or up-regulating, T cell activity against pathogens and other undesirable entities, such as cancer cells and other aberrant or mutated cells. Assays and assay techniques for evaluating the immune modulation capabilities of various substances are also disclosed.

Claims (36)

1. An immune modulating composition, consisting of:

a first fraction of a first quantity of bovine colostrum, the first fraction having a first upper molecular weight cutoff of about 10,000 Da obtained by separating molecules of the first quantity at and below the first upper molecular weight cutoff from molecules of the first quantity above the first upper molecular weight cutoff;

a second fraction of a second quantity of bovine colostrum, the second quantity being separate from the first quantity, the second fraction having a second upper molecular weight cutoff of about 3,000 Da obtained by separating molecules of the second quantity at or below the second upper molecular weight cutoff from molecules of the second quantity above the second upper molecular weight cutoff; and

powdered egg yolk,

an entirety of the first fraction, an entirety of the second fraction, and the powdered egg yolk being combined with one another.

2. An immune modulating composition, consisting of a first powdered extract, a second powdered extract, and powdered egg yolk,

the first powdered extract being a powdered extract of bovine colostrum obtained by separating molecules having molecular weights at and below a first upper molecular weight cutoff of about 10,000 Da of a first quantity of the bovine colostrum from molecules of the first quantity having molecular weights above the first upper molecular weight cutoff,

the second powdered extract being a powdered extract of bovine colostrum obtained by separating molecules having molecular weights at and below a second upper molecular weight cutoff of about 4,000 Da of a second quantity of the bovine colostrum from molecules of the second quantity having molecular weights above the second upper molecular weight cutoff,

an entirety of the first powdered extract, an entirety of the second powdered extract, and the powdered egg yolk being combined with one another.

3. The immune modulating composition of claim 2 , wherein the second powdered extract makes up at least about two percent of a total weight of the immune modulating composition.

4. The immune modulating composition of claim 3 , wherein:

the first powdered extract makes up about 68% of the total weight of the immune modulating composition;

the second powdered extract makes up about 2% of the total weight of the immune modulating composition; and

the powdered egg yolk makes up about 30% of the total weight of the immune modulating composition.

5. An immune modulating composition, consisting of:

a transfer factor-containing fraction of bovine colostrum, the transfer factor-containing fraction comprising a fraction of a first quantity of bovine colostrum obtained by separating molecules of the first quantity having molecular weights at and below a first upper molecular weight cutoff of about 10,000 Da from molecules of the first quantity having molecular weights above the first upper molecular weight cutoff;

a transfer factor-lacking fraction of bovine colostrum obtained from a second quantity of bovine colostrum, the transfer factor-lacking fraction comprising a fraction of the second quantity of the bovine colostrum obtained by separating molecules of the second quantity having molecular weights at and below a second upper molecular weight cutoff of about 3,000 Da from molecules of the second quantity having molecular weights above the second upper molecular weight cutoff; and

chicken egg yolk,

an entirety of the transfer factor-containing fraction, an entirety of the transfer factor-lacking fraction, and the chicken egg yolk being combined.

6. The immune modulating composition of claim 5 , wherein the transfer factor-lacking fraction makes up at least about two percent of a total weight of the immune modulating composition.

7. The immune modulating composition of claim 6 , wherein:

the transfer factor-containing fraction makes up about 68% of the total weight of the immune modulating composition; and

the chicken egg yolk makes up about 30% of the total weight of the immune modulating composition.

8. An immune modulating composition, comprising:

a first fraction of bovine colostrum obtained by separating molecules of a first quantity of the bovine colostrum having molecular weights at and below a first upper molecular weight cutoff of about 4,000 Da from molecules of the first quantity having molecular weights above the first upper molecular weight cutoff;

a second fraction of bovine colostrum obtained by separating molecules of a second quantity of bovine colostrum having molecular weights at and below a second upper molecular weight cutoff of about 10,000 Da from molecules of the second quantity having molecular weights above the second molecular weight cutoff; and

chicken egg yolk,

an entirety of the first fraction, and entirety of the second fraction, and the chicken egg yolk being combined with one another.

9. The immune modulating composition of claim 8 , consisting of:

the first fraction;

the second fraction; and

the chicken egg yolk.

10. The immune modulating composition of claim 8 , wherein:

the first fraction comprises a powdered extract of bovine colostrum;
