Abstract

A method for digital information including at least one of digital video information and digital audio information to a transmission path. The method includes compressing the digital video information by a first compression method, bit compressing the digital audio information by a second compression method which is different from the first compression method, and adding error-detection information to both the digital video information and the digital audio information.

Claims (62)

1. A digital information transmitting method for transmitting digital information, wherein the digital information includes video information and audio information, comprising the steps of:

compressing the digital information by compressing the video information by a first compression method and by compressing the audio information by a second compression method which is different from the first compression method;

coding the compressed digital information by at least adding transmission error correction information to the compressed video information and separately to the compressed audio information, respectively, to enable correction for an error which occurs in a transmission path having no recording process of the digital information therein;

modulating the compressed digital information including the compressed video information and the compressed audio information to which the transmission error correction information has been added; and

transmitting the modulated digital information to the transmission path.

2. A digital information transmitting method for transmitting digital information, wherein the digital information includes video information and audio information, comprising the steps of:

compressing the digital information by compressing the video information by a first compression method and by compressing the audio information by a second compression method which is different from the first compression method;

generating control information for controlling the video information and the audio information;

coding the compressed digital information by at least adding transmission error correction information to the compressed video information and separately to the compressed audio information, respectively, and the control information to enable correction for an error occurring in a transmission path recording process of the digital information therein;

modulating the compressed digital information including the compressed video information and the compressed audio information and the control information to which the transmission correction information has been added; and

transmitting the modulated digital information to the transmission path.

3. A digital information transmitting, receiving and recording method, wherein the digital information includes video information and audio information, comprising the steps of:

compressing the digital information by compressing the video information by a first compression method and by compressing the audio information by a second compression method which is different from the first compression method;

coding the compressed digital information by at least adding transmission error correction information to the compressed video information and separately to the compressed audio information, respectively, to enable correction for an error which occurs in a transmission path having no recording/reproducing process of the digital information therein;

modulating the compressed digital information including the compressed video information and the compressed audio information to which the transmission error correction information has been added;

transmitting the modulated compressed digital information to the transmission path;

receiving the transmitted modulated compressed digital information from the transmission path;

demodulating the received compressed digital information which includes the compressed video information and the compressed audio information;

error correcting an error of the demodulated compressed digital information, the error being the error which occurs in the transmission path and not in the recording/reproducing process of the digital information;

adding record error correction information to the demodulated compressed and transmission error corrected digital information to enable correction for an error which occurs in the recording/reproducing process of the digital information;

modulating the compressed digital information including the compressed video information and the compressed audio information to which the record error correction information has been added; and

recording the modulated compressed digital information having the second error correction information to a recording media.

4. A digital information transmitting, receiving and recording/reproducing method, wherein the digital information includes video information and audio information, comprising the steps of:

compressing the digital information by compressing the video information by a first compression method and compressing the audio information by a second compression method which is different from the first compression method;

coding the compressed digital information by at least adding transmission error correction information to the compressed video information and separately to the compressed audio information, respectively, to enable correction for an error which occurs in a transmission path having no recording/reproducing process of the digital information therein;

modulating the compressed digital information including the compressed video information and the compressed audio information to which the transmission error correction information has been added;

transmitting the modulated compressed digital information to the transmission path;

receiving the transmitted modulated compressed digital information from the transmission path;

demodulating the received compressed digital information which includes the compressed video information and the compressed audio information;

error correcting an error of the demodulated compressed digital information, the error being the error which occurs in the transmission path and not in the recording/reproducing process of the digital information;

adding record error correction information to the demodulated compressed and transmission error corrected digital information to enable correction for an error which occurs in the recording/reproducing process of the digital information;

modulating the compressed digital information including the compressed video information and the compressed audio information to which the record error correction information has been added;

recording the modulated compressed digital information having the record error correction information to a recording media;

demodulating the compressed digital information reproduced from the recording media;

record error correcting an error of the demodulated compressed digital information based on the record error correction information, the error being the error which occurs in the recording/reproducing process of the digital information; and

expanding the demodulated record error corrected compressed digital information to obtain expanded video information by expanding the digital information in accordance with a first expansion method corresponding to the first compression method and to obtain expanded audio information by expanding the digital information in accordance with a second expansion method corresponding to the second compression method.

5. A digital information transmitting method, according to claim 1 ,

wherein the coding step includes inner coding and outer coding; and

wherein the transmission error correction information is added to at least the compressed video information by the outer coding, and the inner coding includes at least inner coding of the compressed video information to which the transmission error correction information has been added.

6. A digital information transmitting method, according to claim 2 ,

wherein the coding step includes inner coding and outer coding; and

wherein the transmission error correction information is added to at least the compressed video information by the outer coding, and the inner coding includes at least inner coding of the compressed video information to which the transmission error correction information has been added.

7. A digital information transmitting, receiving and recording method, according to claim 3 ,

wherein the coding step includes inner coding and outer coding; and

wherein the transmission error correction information is added to at least the compressed video information by the outer coding, and the inner coding includes at least inner coding of the compressed video information to which the transmission error correction information has been added.

8. A digital information transmitting, receiving and recording/reproducing method, according to claim 4 ,

wherein the coding step includes inner coding and outer coding; and

wherein the transmission error correction information is added at least to the compressed video information by the outer coding, and the inner coding includes at least inner coding of the compressed video information to which the transmission error correction information has been added.

9. A digital information transmitting method for transmitting digital information, wherein the digital information includes video information and audio information, comprising the steps of:

compressing the digital information by compressing the video information by a first compression method and by compressing the audio information by a second compression method which is different from the first compression method;

coding the compressed digital information by adding transmission error correction information to the compressed video information and separately to the compressed audio information, respectively, to enable correction for an error which occurs in a transmission path having no recording process of the digital information, wherein the coding step includes inner coding and outer coding, the transmission error correction information is added to at least the compressed video information by the outer coding, and the inner coding includes at least inner coding of the compressed video information to which the transmission error correction information has been added;

modulating the coded compressed digital information; and

transmitting the modulated digital information to the transmission path.

10. A digital information transmitting method for transmitting digital information, wherein the digital information includes video information and audio information, comprising the steps of:

compressing the digital information by compressing the video information by a first compression method and by compressing the audio information by a second compression method which is different from the first compression method;

coding the compressed digital information by adding transmission error correction information to the compressed video information and separately to the compressed audio information, respectively, to enable correction for an error which occurs in a transmission path having no recording process of the digital information therein, wherein the coding step includes inner coding and outer coding the transmission error correction information is added to at least the compressed video information by the outer coding, and the inner coding includes at least inner coding of the compressed video information to which the transmission error correction information has been added;

modulating the coded compressed digital information; and

transmitting the modulated digital information to the transmission path;

receiving the transmitted modulated compressed digital information from the transmission path;

demodulating the received compressed digital information which includes the compressed video information and the compressed audio information;

error correcting an error of the demodulated compressed digital information, the error being the error which occurs in the transmission path having no recording process of the digital information therein;

expanding the error corrected demodulated compressed digital information to obtain expanded video information by expanding the digital information in accordance with a first expansion method corresponding to the first compression method and to obtain expanded audio information by expanding the digital information in accordance with a second expansion method corresponding to the second compression method.
