LAMINATED SURGICAL TAPE AND METHOD FOR USING SAME
A method of marking a patient's skin before surgery. The method includes the step of providing a first tape member having first and second layers. The first and second layers each have a plurality of perforations defined therethrough. The second layer overlies the first layer. At least one of the perforations of the second layer at least partially overlaps with at least one of the perforations of the first layer, thereby forming at least one double perforation. The method further includes placing the first tape member on a portion of the patient's skin, marking the skin through at least one of the double perforations, removing the second layer from the first layer, marking the skin through at least one of the perforations of the first layer that has not previously been marked, and removing the first layer from the patient's skin.
1 . A method of marking a patient's skin before surgery, the method comprising the steps of:
a) providing a first tape member comprising first and second layers, wherein the first layer has a plurality of perforations defined therethrough, wherein the second layer overlies the first layer and has a plurality of perforations defined therethrough, wherein at least one of the perforations of the second layer at least partially overlaps with at least one of the perforations of the first layer, thereby forming at least one double perforation,
b) placing the first tape member on a portion of the patient's skin,
c) marking the skin through at least one of the double perforations,
e) removing the second layer from the first layer,
f) marking the skin through at least one of the perforations of the first layer that has not previously been marked, and
g) removing the first layer from the patient's skin.
2 . The method of claim 1 wherein every other perforation in the first layer forms a double perforation with a perforation in the second layer.
3 . The method of claim 2 wherein the perforations in the first and second layers are positioned along the longitudinal center of the tape.
4 . The method of claim 1 further comprising the steps of:
providing a second tape member comprising first and second layers, wherein the first layer has a plurality of perforations defined therethrough, wherein the second layer overlies the first layer and has a plurality of perforations defined therethrough, wherein at least one of the perforations of the second layer at least partially overlaps with at least one of the perforations of the first layer, thereby forming at least one double perforation,
c) marking the skin through at least one of the double perforations in the second tape member,
e) removing the second layer of the second tape member from the first layer of the second tape member,
f) marking the skin through at least one of the perforations of the first layer of the second tape member, and
g) removing the first layer of the second tape member from the patient's skin.
5 . The method of claim 4 further wherein the first tape member is placed on a portion of the skin adjacent the right submandibular border, and the second tape member is placed on a portion of the skin adjacent the left submandibular border.
6 . The method of claim 4 wherein the markings made with the first tape member are symmetrical to the markings made with the second tape member.
7 . The method of claim 1 wherein the perforations in the first layer are spaced equidistance from one another, and wherein the perforations in the second layer are spaced equidistance from one another.
8 . The method of claim 7 wherein the perforations in the second layer are spaced twice as far apart from one another as the perforations in the first layer are spaced apart from one another.
9 . The method of claim 1 wherein every other perforation in the first layer is concentric with a perforation in the second layer.
10 . The method of claim 1 wherein the overlapping perforations of the first and second layers are concentric.
11 . The method of claim 1 wherein the first tape member is placed on a portion of the skin adjacent the right submandibular border and on a portion of the skin adjacent the left submandibular border.
12 . Surgical tape comprising:
a) a first layer, wherein the first layer has at least two perforations defined therethrough, and
b) a second layer overlying the first layer, wherein the second layer has at least two perforations defined therethrough, wherein at least one of the perforations of the second layer at least partially overlaps at least one of the perforations of the first layer.
13 . The surgical tape of claim 12 wherein the perforations in the first layer are spaced equidistance from one another, and wherein the perforations in the second layer are spaced equidistance from one another.
14 . The surgical tape of claim 13 wherein the perforations in the second layer are spaced twice as far apart from one another as the perforations in the first layer are spaced apart from one another.
15 . The surgical tape of claim 14 wherein the perforations in the first and second layers are positioned along the longitudinal center of the tape.
16 . The surgical tape of claim 12 wherein every other perforation in the first layer is concentric with a perforation in the second layer.
17 . The surgical tape of claim 12 wherein the second layer is removably adhered to the first layer such that the second layer can be removed from the first layer.
18 . The surgical tape of claim 17 wherein the first layer includes an adhesive on a bottom thereof that can be peeled from a patient's skin.
