Abstract

The present invention automates the process of receiving transportation documentation and producing advance loading manifests therefrom to optimize load planning and dynamic product shipment and delivery control. Methods provide for receipt of the transportation documentation, initial preparation, and transmission of the documentation from on board a vehicle or while the vehicle is in transit.

Claims (24)

1. A method of processing an image from on board a vehicle comprising:

scanning an image utilizing a scanning device;

processing the image utilizing an image processor on board the vehicle;

sending the image from the image processor to a remote processor;

storing the image in memory at the remote processor;

routing at least portions of the image to one or more image processing utilities for use in preparing advance loading manifests;

generating an advance loading manifest utilizing at least portions of the image; and

transmitting the advance loading manifest in advance of the arrival of a transportation vehicle at a remote facility.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

decomposing the image into one or more packets; and

assembling one or more of the packets into the image at the remote processor.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

validating the image is received without a transmission defect at the remote processor;

communicating from the remote processor to the vehicle if the transmission defect is detected; and

resending at least a portion of the image automatically from the vehicle if the transmission defect is communicated from the remote processor.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

sending vehicle information from the vehicle to the remote processor.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the image processing utilities include at least one of:

a classification process to identify and classify at least a portion of the image;

an image enhancement process to selectively modify the image quality;

an optical character recognition process to create an electronic text representation of the image; and

a work-flow process to route at least a portion of the image to one or more queues for work processing.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

transmitting the image from the remote processor to a shipping customer's remote client.
