Abstract

Preservative composition for various materials and method of preserving the same is disclosed. The preservative composition includes at least one silane-containing material and at least one hydrocarbon solvent containing molecules of at least five carbon atoms.

Claims (47)

1. A method for preserving an untreated, or boron-impregnated, or painted material, said method comprising the steps of:

providing a solution of a preservative composition comprising at least one non-oxygen silane-containing material, the silane-containing material having at least one C 1 -C 8 hydrocarbon substituent, and one hydrocarbon alkane solvent containing molecules of at least five carbon atoms; and

applying the solution of the preservative composition to an untreated, or boron-impregnated, or painted material and penetrating and diffusing the at least one-non-oxygen silane-containing material into the material such that the material is impregnated by the at least one non-oxygen silane-containing material.

2. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein the one hydrocarbon alkane solvent is one of pentane, heptane, and hexane.

3. A method for treating a material, said method comprising the steps of:

providing a composition comprising at least one chlorosilane material and at least one hydrocarbon solvent;

applying the composition to the material and penetrating and diffusing the chlorosilane material into the material; and further comprises at least one pesticide-containing material.

4. A method for treating a drywall material, said method comprising the steps of:

providing a composition comprising at least one chlorosilane material and at least one hydrocarbon solvent; and

applying the composition to the drywall material, and penetrating and diffusing the chlorosilane material into the drywall material.

5. A method as set forth in claim 4 wherein the at least one hydrocarbon solvent is at least one of pentane, heptane, hexane, and combinations thereof.

6. A method for preserving a masonry material, said method comprising the steps of:

providing a solution of a preservative composition comprising at least one non-oxygen silane-containing material and at least one hydrocarbon alkane solvent containing molecules of at least five carbon atoms; and applying the solution of the preservative composition to the masonry material and penetrating and diffusing the silane-containing material into the masonry material such that the masonry material is impregnated by the at least one non-oxygen silane-containing material.

7. A method as set forth in claim 6 where the at least one hydrocarbon alkane solvent is at least one of pentane, heptane, hexane, and combinations thereof.

8. A method for preserving an untreated, or boron-impregnated, or painted wood material, said method comprising the steps of:

providing a solution of a preservative composition comprising at least one chlorosilane material, the chlorosilane material having at least one C 1 -C 8 hydrocarbon substituent, and at least one hydrocarbon alkane solvent containing molecules of at least five carbon atoms; and

applying the solution of the preservative composition to an untreated, or boron-impregnated, or painted wood material and penetrating and diffusing the chlorosilane material into the wood material.

9. A method as set forth in claim 8 wherein the at least one hydrocarbon alkane solvent is at least one of pentane, heptane, hexane, and combinations thereof.

10. A method for treating a paper material, said method comprising the steps of:

providing a solution comprising at least one non-oxygen silane-containing material, the silane-containing material having at least one C 1 -C 8 hydrocarbon substituent, and at least one hydrocarbon alkane solvent; and

applying the solution to an untreated, or boron-impregnated, or painted paper material and penetrating and diffusing the silane-containing material into the paper material.

11. A method as set forth in claim 10 wherein the at least one hydrocarbon alkane solvent is at least one of pentane, heptane, hexane, and combinations thereof.

12. A method for treating a wood material, said method comprising the steps of:

providing a solution of a composition comprising at least one non-oxygen silane-containing material, the silane-containing material having at least one C 1 -C 8 hydrocarbon substituent, and at least one hydrocarbon alkane solvent containing molecules of at least five carbon atoms; and

applying the solution of the composition to an untreated, or boron-impregnated, or painted wood material and penetrating and diffusing the silane-containing material into the wood material such that the wood material is impregnated by the silane-containing material.

13. A method as set forth in claim 12 wherein the at least one hydrocarbon alkane solvent is at least one of pentane, heptane, hexane, and combinations thereof.

14. A method for treating a paper material comprising:

providing a solution comprising at least one chlorosilane material, the chlorosilane material having at least one C 1 -C 8 hydrocarbon substituent, and at least one hydrocarbon solvent; and

applying the solution to an untreated, or boron-impregnated, or painted paper material and penetrating and diffusing the chlorosilane material into the paper material.

15. A method for treating a masonry material, said method comprising the steps of

providing a composition comprising at least one chlorosilane material and at least one hydrocarbon solvent; and

applying the composition to the masonry material and penetrating and diffusing the chlorosilane material into the masonry material such that the masonry material is impregnated by the at least one chlorosilane material.

16. A method for treating a wood material, said method comprising the steps of:

providing a solution comprising at least one chlorosilane material, the chlorosilane material having at least one C 1 -C 8 hydrocarbon substituent, and at least one hydrocarbon solvent;

and applying the solution to an untreated, or boron-impregnated, or painted wood material and penetrating and diffusing the chlorosilane material into the wood material.

17. A method for treating a fibrous material, said method comprising the steps of:

providing a solution comprising at least one chlorosilane material, the chlorosilane material having at least one C 1 -C 8 hydrocarbon substituent, and at least one hydrocarbon solvent; and

applying the solution of the composition to an untreated, or boron-impregnated, or painted fibrous material and penetrating and diffusing the chlorosilane material into the fibrous material.

18. A method for treating an insulation material, said method comprising the steps of:

providing a composition comprising at least one chlorosilane material and at least one hydrocarbon solvent; and

applying the composition to the insulation material and penetrating and diffusing the chlorosilane material into the insulation material.

19. A method for treating a paper material, said method consisting essentially of the steps of:

providing a solution comprising at least one non-oxygen silane-containing material, the silane-containing material having at least one C 1 -C 8 hydrocarbon substituent, and at least one hydrocarbon alkane solvent; and

applying the solution to a paper material and penetrating and diffusing the silane-containing material into the paper material.

20. A method for treating a paper material consisting essentially of:

providing a solution comprising at least one chlorosilane material, the chlorosilane material having at least one C 1 -C 8 hydrocarbon substituent, and at least one hydrocarbon solvent; and

applying the solution to a paper material and penetrating and diffusing the chlorosilane material into the paper material.
