Abstract

Provided is a computer system and methods for a map-based guide. A method includes but is not limited to receiving a request for the map-based guide; determining a location associated with the request; preparing a route in accordance with the location associated with the request and in accordance with at least one of a profit-motive and/or a goodwill factor; and transmitting the map-based guide.

Claims (82)

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, at a server, a request from a requestor for a route from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication;

determining, by the server, whether the requestor is entitled to receive a route from the starting point to the destination and, if the requestor is not entitled to receive a route from the starting point to the destination, determining, by the server, a map-based guide from the starting point to the destination that guides the requestor past at least one location of at least one entity providing at least partial compensation for determining the map-based guide, wherein the at least one location would not be included in the route from the starting point to the destination; and

transmitting, by the server, an indication of the determined map-based guide to the requestor at least partially via wireless communication.

The method of claim 1 , wherein determining by the server, whether the requestor is entitled to receive a route from the starting point to the destination and, if the requestor is not entitled to receive a route from the starting point to the destination, determining, by the server, a map-based guide from the starting point to the destination that guides the requestor past at least one location of at least one entity providing at least partial compensation for determining the map-based guide, wherein the at least one location would not be included in the route from the starting point to the destination comprises:

determining whether the requestor is entitled to receive an efficient route from the starting point to the destination.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein determining whether the requestor is entitled to receive an efficient route from the starting point to the destination comprises:

determining whether the requestor is entitled to receive a route associated with at least one of a shortest distance traveled, a fewest miles traveled, a least time required, or a least traffic congestion encountered between the starting point and the destination.

4. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

if the requestor is not entitled to receive an efficient route from the starting point to the destination, determining a route from the starting point to the destination that guides the requestor past at least one location of at least one entity providing compensation for determining the route.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving, at a server, a request from a requestor for a route from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication comprises:

receiving a request for a map-based guide.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving, at a server, a request from a requestor for a route from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication comprises:

receiving a transmission including at least the request, wherein the transmission is associated with a mobile device wirelessly transmitting the request.

The method of claim 1 , wherein determining by the server, whether the requestor is entitled to receive a route from the starting point to the destination and, if the requestor is not entitled to receive a route from the starting point to the destination, determining, by the server, a map-based guide from the starting point to the destination that guides the requestor past at least one location of at least one entity providing at least partial compensation for determining the map-based guide, wherein the at least one location would not be included in the route from the starting point to the destination comprises:

determining a location; and

preparing a map-based guide in accordance with the location and in accordance with at least one of a profit-motive or a goodwill factor.

The method of claim 1 , wherein determining, by the server, whether the requestor is entitled to receive a route from the starting point to the destination and, if the requestor is not entitled to receive a route from the starting point to the destination, determining, by the server, a map-based guide from the starting point to the destination that guides the requestor past at least one location of at least one entity providing at least partial compensation for determining the map-based guide, wherein the at least one location would not be included in the route from the starting point to the destination comprises:

determining whether the requestor has provided remuneration and, if the requestor has not provided remuneration, preparing a map-based guide that guides the requestor past at least one location of at least one entity providing at least partial compensation for determining the map-based guide.

The method of claim 1 , wherein determining, by the server, whether the requestor is entitled to receive a route from the starting point to the destination and, if the requestor is not entitled to receive a route from the starting point to the destination, determining, by the server, a map-based guide from the starting point to the destination that guides the requestor past at least one location of at least one entity providing at least partial compensation for determining the map-based guide, wherein the at least one location would not be included in the route from the starting point to the destination comprises:

determining whether the requestor is a subscriber entitled to receive the route and, if the requestor is not a subscriber, preparing a map-based guide that guides the requestor past at least one location of at least one entity providing at least partial compensation for determining the map-based guide.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving, at a server, a request from a requestor for a route from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication comprises:

receiving the request, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via at least one wireless connection, the at least one wireless connection including at least one of a wireless LAN (WLAN), an IEEE 802.11 connection, a Bluetooth connection, or a satellite connection.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

recording the request and the determined map-based guide.

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein preparing a map-based guide in accordance with the location and in accordance with at least one of a profit-motive or a goodwill factor comprises:

preparing a map-based guide in accordance with the profit motive, the profit motive including a revenue generating goal known to a server preparing the route, the route including one or more commercial establishments as a function of meeting the revenue-generating goal.

13. The method of claim 7 , wherein preparing a map-based guide in accordance with the location and in accordance with at least one of a profit-motive or a goodwill factor comprises:

preparing a map-based guide in accordance with the goodwill factor, the goodwill factor including directing the requestor past one or more server-directed locations, the one or more server-directed locations determined according to a predetermined number of visitors for the one or more server-directed locations.

14. The method of claim 7 , wherein preparing a map-based guide in accordance with the location and in accordance with at least one of a profit-motive or a goodwill factor comprises:

guiding based on a server-directed decision-making process.

15. The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting, by the server, an indication of the determined map-based guide to the requestor at least partially via wireless communication comprises:

transmitting the map-based guide, the map-based guide including at least one of an efficient route, or (b) an alternate route, that alternate route guiding the requestor past at least one location of at least one entity.

16. The method of claim 7 , wherein preparing a map-based guide in accordance with the location and in accordance with at least one of a profit-motive or a goodwill factor comprises:

providing a map-based guide associated with the request by adjusting an influence of the at least one of the profit motive or the goodwill factor related to at least one of a higher level or a lower level of remuneration from the requestor.

17. The method of claim 7 , wherein determining a location comprises:

receiving an identifier representing one or more of a final destination, a starting location, or an intermediary destination.

The method of claim 1 , wherein determining, by the server, whether the requestor is entitled to receive a route from the starting point to the destination and, if the requestor is not entitled to receive a route from the starting point to the destination, determining, by the server, a map-based guide from the starting point to the destination that guides the requestor past at least one location of at least one entity providing at least partial compensation for determining the map-based guide, wherein the at least one location would not be included in the route from the starting point to the destination comprises:

searching a data store to associate the requestor with a data store entry in the data store, the data store entry identifying whether the requestor is entitled to a route from the starting point to the destination, including at least:

comparing the requestor to a list of subscribers that are associated with providing remuneration for a route; and

providing a map-based guide if the data store is independent of a data store entry associated with the requestor.

19. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

bundling one or more advertising locations in the map-based guide.

20. A computer program product, comprising:

at least one non-transitory computer readable medium including at least:

one or more instructions for receiving, at a server, a request from a source for a map-based guide from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication;

one or more instructions for determining, by the server, whether the source is entitled to receive a map-based guide and, if the source is not entitled to receive a map-based guide, determining, by the server, a route from the starting point to the destination including at least one location of at least one entity offering at least partial compensation for determining the route wherein at least one location would not be included in the requested map-based guide; and

one or more instructions for transmitting, by the server, an indication of the determined map-based guide to the source at least partially via wireless communication.

The computer program product of claim 20 , wherein the one or more instructions for receiving, at a server, a request from a source for a map-based guide from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication and the one or more instructions for determining, by the server, whether the source is entitled to receive a map-based guide and, if the source is not entitled to receive a map-based guide, determining, by the server, a route from the starting point to the destination including at least one location of at least one entity offering at least partial compensation for determining the route wherein at least one location would not be included in the requested map-based guide comprise:

one or more instructions for receiving a request from a requestor for a route from a starting point to a destination and one or more instructions for determining whether the requestor is entitled to receive a direct route from the starting point to the destination and, if the requestor is not entitled to receive a direct route from the starting point to the destination, determining an indirect route from the starting point to the destination that guides the requestor past at least one location of at least one entity providing compensation for determining the indirect route, wherein the at least one location would not be included in the direct route from the starting point to the destination.

22. A method, comprising:

receiving, at a server, a request from a source for a map-based guide from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication; and

determining, by the server, whether the source is entitled to receive a map-based guide and, if the source is not entitled to receive a map-based guide, determining, by the server, a route from the starting point to the destination including at least one location of at least one entity offering at least partial compensation for determining the route wherein the at least one location would not be included in the requested map-based guide; and

transmitting, by the server, an indication of the determined map-based guide to the source at least partially via wireless communication.

23. The method of claim 22 , wherein receiving, at a server, a request from a source for a map-based guide from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication comprises:

receiving a request from a requestor for a map-based guide from a starting point to a destination.

24. The method of claim 22 , wherein receiving, at a server, a request from a source for a map-based guide from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication comprises:

receiving a request from a source for a map-based guide from a starting point to a destination, the source associated with a login account to one or more websites.

25. The method of claim 22 , wherein receiving, at a server, a request from a source for a map-based guide from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication comprises:

receiving a request from a subscriber for a map-based guide from a starting point to a destination.

26. The method of claim 22 , wherein receiving, at a server, a request from a source for a map-based guide from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication comprises:

receiving a request from a source for a map-based guide, including at least receiving an identifier associated with a destination in a predefined area and a location parameter identifying a starting location, the request being for a map-based guide from the starting location to the destination.

27. The method of claim 22 , wherein receiving, at a server, a request from a source for a map-based guide from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication comprises:

receiving a request from a requestor for a route from a starting location to a destination.

28. The method of claim 22 , wherein receiving, at a server, a request from a source for a map-based guide from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication comprises:

receiving a request from a requestor for a map-based guide from a starting location to a destination.

29. The method of claim 22 , wherein receiving, at a server, a request from a source for a map-based guide from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication comprises:

receiving a request from a source for a route from a starting location to a destination.

30. The method of claim 22 , wherein determining, by the server, whether the source is entitled to receive a map-based guide and, if the source is not entitled to receive a map-based guide, determining, by the server, a route from the starting point to the destination including at least one location of at least one entity offering at least partial compensation for determining the route wherein the at least one location would not be included in the requested map-based guide comprises:

determining whether the source is entitled to receive a supported map-based guide and, if the source is not entitled to receive a supported map-based guide, determining a route from the starting point to the destination including at least one location of at least one entity associated with an offer of at least partial compensation for determining the route wherein the at least one location would not be included in the supported map-based guide.

The method of claim 22 , wherein determining, by the server, whether the source is entitled to receive a map-based guide and, if the source is not entitled to receive a map-based guide, determining, by the server, a route from the starting point to the destination including at least one location of at least one entity offering at least partial compensation for determining the route wherein the at least one location would not be included in the requested map-based guide comprises:

determining whether the source is associated with a subscriber and, if the source is not associated with a subscriber, determining a route from the starting point to the destination including at least one location of at least one entity associated with an offer of at least partial compensation for determining the route wherein the at least one location would not be included in the requested map-based guide.

The method of claim 22 , wherein determining, by the server, whether the source is entitled to receive a map-based guide and, if the source is not entitled to receive a map-based guide, determining, by the server, a route from the starting point to the destination including at least one location of at least one entity offering at least partial compensation for determining the route wherein the at least one location would not be included in the requested map-based guide comprises:

determining whether the source is entitled to receive a map-based guide and, if the source is not entitled to receive a map-based guide, determining a route from the starting point to the destination including at least one location of at least one entity associated with an offer of at least partial compensation for determining the route wherein the at least one location would not be included in the requested map-based guide.

The method of claim 22 , wherein determining, by the server, whether the source is entitled to receive a map-based guide and, if the source is not entitled to receive a map-based guide, determining, by the server, a route from the starting point to the destination including at least one location of at least one entity offering at least partial compensation for determining the route wherein the at least one location would not be included in the requested map-based guide comprises:

determining whether the source is associated with providing remuneration at least one of previous to or subsequent to receiving a map-based guide and, if the source is not associated with providing remuneration at least one of previous to or subsequent to receiving a map-based guide, determining a route from the starting point to the destination that directs the source past at least one location of at least one entity associated with an offer of at least partial compensation for determining the route wherein the at least one location would not be included in the requested map-based guide.

34. A system, comprising:

circuitry for receiving, at a server, a request from a source for a map-based guide from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication;

circuitry for determining, by the server, whether the source is entitled to receive a map-based guide and, if the source is not entitled to receive a map-based guide, determining, by the server, a route from the starting point to the destination including at least one location of at least one entity offering at least partial compensation for determining the route wherein at least one location would not be included in the requested map-based guide; and

circuitry for transmitting, by the server, an indication of the determined map-based guide to the source at least partially via wireless communication.

The system of claim 34 , wherein the circuitry for receiving, at a server, a request from a source for a map-based guide from a starting point to a destination, the request transmitted to the server at least partially via wireless communication and the circuitry for determining, by the server, whether the source is entitled to receive a map-based guide and, if the source is not entitled to receive a map-based guide, determining, by the server, a route from the starting point to the destination including at least one location of at least one entity offering at least partial compensation for determining the route wherein at least one location would not be included in the requested map-based guide comprise:

circuitry for receiving a request from a requestor for a route from a starting point to a destination and circuitry for determining whether the requestor is entitled to receive a direct route from the starting point to the destination and, if the requestor is not entitled to receive a direct route from the starting point to the destination, determining an indirect route from the starting point to the destination that guides the requestor past at least one location of at least one entity providing compensation for determining the indirect route, wherein the at least one location would not be included in the direct route from the starting point to the destination.
