Vehicle energy management system
View Patent ↗In-a vehicle energy management system engine belt or engine direct driven components are replaced with electrical motors. A main fan unit is replaced with smaller single function electrical components. The larger multipurpose heat exchangers such as the vehicle radiator are replaced with smaller single function heat exchangers associated with the smaller electric fans. The energy management system may involve a main vehicle engine crankshaft mounted generator. This generator creates high voltage DC electricity. In one embodiment, the converter is a closed loop converter that makes the conversion of DC to AC alternatively turning on and off at a varying frequency in order to produce a time averaged AC output.
1. An energy management system in combination with a mobile vehicle, comprising:
a chassis and a cab engaged to said chassis;
an engine engaged to said chassis and said engine engaged to a transmission for providing motive force on said mobile vehicle;
an exhaust system engaged to an exhaust output of said engine the exhaust system including heaters;
a generator engaged to said engine for providing electricity to an electric system of said mobile vehicle; and
said generator having an unregulated DC electricity output and said generator electrically engaged to energize said heaters to heat a catalyst within an engine emission control exhaust after treatment system with said unregulated DC electricity output.
2. The vehicle and energy management system combination of claim 1 , wherein:
vehicle controls energize said heaters upon vehicle startup and de-energize said heaters upon catalyst warming.
3. The vehicle and energy management system combination of claim 1 , comprising:
vehicle controls energize said heaters when said catalyst is cold and de-energize said heaters upon catalyst warming.
4. The vehicle and energy management system combination of claim 1 , comprising:
an electronic control module in communication with said electric system monitors vehicle parameters to determine a need for a periodic recycle heating of said catalyst; and
said electronic control module programmed to automatically initiate periodic catalyst recycle heating upon sensing pre-determined parameters indicating a need for recycle heating.
5. The vehicle and energy management system combination of claim 4 , wherein:
said pre-determined parameters for indicating a need for recycle heating includes fuel consumption.
6. The vehicle and energy management system combination of claim 4 , wherein:
said pre-determined parameters for indicating a need for recycle heating includes vehicle mileage.
7. The vehicle and energy management system combination of claim 1 , comprising:
an electronic control module in communication with said electric system monitors vehicle parameters to determine a need for a periodic recycle heating of said catalyst; and
said electronic control module programmed to provide a visual indication in said cab of said mobile vehicle indicating a need for a manually initiated recycle heating of said catalyst.
8. The vehicle and energy management system combination of claim 7 , wherein:
said vehicle parameters for determining a need for periodic recycle heating includes fuel consumption.
9. The vehicle and energy management system combination of claim 7 , wherein:
said vehicle parameters to determine a need for periodic recycle heating of said catalyst includes vehicle mileage.
