Compositions and methods for controlling nematodes
Compositions and processes for controlling nematodes are described herein, e.g., nematodes that infest plants or animals. The compounds include oxazoles, oxadiazoles and thiadiazoles.
1. A method for control of plant parasitic nematodes, the method comprising administering to a plant, a seed or soil a composition comprising an effective amount of
a compound of Formula IV or a salt thereof
wherein
A 1 is phenyl, pyrazyl, oxazolyl or isoxazolyl each of which can be optionally independently substituted with one or more substituents selected from halogen, CF 3 , CH 3 , OCF 3 , OCH 3 , CN, and C(H)O; and
C 1 is thienyl, furanyl, oxazolyl or isoxazolyl each of which can be optionally independently substituted with one or more substituents selected from fluorine, chlorine, CH 3 , and OCF 3 .
2. The method of claim 1 wherein A 1 is phenyl.
3. The method of claim 1 wherein A 1 is pyrazyl.
4. The method of claim 1 wherein A 1 is oxazolyl.
5. The method of claim 1 wherein A 1 is isoxazolyl.
6. The method of claim 1 wherein C 1 is thienyl.
7. The method of claim 1 wherein C 1 is furanyl.
8. The method of claim 1 wherein C 1 is oxazolyl.
9. The method of claim 1 wherein C 1 is isoxazolyl.
10. The method of claim 1 wherein the composition comprises a compound of Formula IVa or a salt thereof,
wherein,
R 1 and R 5 are independently selected from hydrogen, CH 3 , F, Cl, Br, CF 3 and OCF 3 ;
R 2 and R 4 are independently selected from hydrogen, F, Cl, Br, and CF 3 ;
R 3 is selected from hydrogen, CH 3 , CF 3 , F, Cl, Br, OCF 3 , OCH 3 , CN, and C(H)O;
R 7 and R 8 are independently selected from hydrogen and fluorine;
R 9 is selected from hydrogen, F, Cl, CH 3 , and OCF 3 ; and
E is O or S.
11. The method of claim 10 wherein E is S.
12. The method of claim 10 wherein E is O.
13. The method of claim 1 wherein the composition comprises a compound of Formula IVb or a salt thereof,
wherein,
R 1 and R 5 are independently selected from hydrogen, CH 3 , F, Cl, Br, CF 3 and OCF 3 ;
R 2 and R 4 are independently selected from hydrogen, F, Cl, Br, and CF 3 ;
R 3 is selected from hydrogen, CH 3 , CF 3 , F, Cl, Br, OCF 3 , OCH 3 , CN, and C(H)O;
R 8 is selected from hydrogen and fluorine;
R 6 and R 9 are independently selected from hydrogen, F, Cl, CH 3 , and OCF 3 ; and
E is O or S.
14. The method of any one of claims 1 , 2 and 3 - 13 wherein the composition comprises a surfactant.
15. The method of any one of claims 1 , 2 and 3 - 13 wherein the composition includes one or more of an insecticide, a fungicide, a herbicide, or other pesticide.
16. The method of any one of claims 1 , 2 and 3 - 13 wherein the composition is applied to seeds.
17. A method for control of parasitic nematodes selected from Pratylenchus spp, Heterodera spp, Globodera spp, Meloidogyne spp, Rotylenchulus spp, Hoplolaimus spp, Belonolaimus spp, Longidorus spp, Paratrichodorus spp, Ditylenchus spp, Xiphinema spp, Helicotylenchus spp, Radopholus spp, Hirschmanniella spp, Tylenchorhynchus spp, and Trichodorus spp, the method comprising administering to a plant, a seed or soil a composition comprising an effective amount of a compound of Formula IV or a salt thereof

A 1 is phenyl, pyrazyl, oxazolyl or isoxazolyl each of which can be optionally independently substituted with one or more substituents selected from halogen, CF 3 , CH 3 , OCF 3 , OCH 3 , CN, and C(H)O; and
C 1 is thienyl, furanyl, oxazolyl or isoxazolyl each of which can be optionally independently substituted with one or more substituents selected from fluorine, chlorine, CH 3 , and OCF 3 .

A method for treating a plant susceptible to disease or infestation by a parasitic nematode selected from Pratylenchus spp, Heterodera spp, Globodera spp, Meloidogyne spp, Rotylenchulus spp, Hoplolaimus spp, Belonolaimus spp, Longidorus spp, Paratrichodorus spp, Ditylenchus spp, Xiphinema spp, Helicotylenchus spp, Radopholus spp, Hirschmanniella spp, Tylenchorhynchus spp, and Trichodorus spp, the method comprising administering to the plant, a seed of the plant or soil in which the plant is growing, a composition comprising an effective amount of a compound of Formula IV or a salt thereof

21. The method of claim 17 or 18 wherein A 1 is oxazolyl.
22. The method of claim 17 or 18 wherein A 1 is isoxazolyl.
23. The method of claim 17 or 18 wherein C 1 is thienyl.
24. The method of claim 17 or 18 wherein C 1 is furanyl.
25. The method of claim 17 or 18 wherein C 1 is oxazolyl.
26. The method of claim 17 or 18 wherein C 1 is isoxazolyl.
27. The method of claim 17 or 18 wherein the composition comprises a surfactant.
28. The method of claim 17 or 18 wherein the composition includes one or more of an insecticide, a fungicide, a herbicide, or other pesticide.
29. A method for control of plant parasitic nematodes, the method comprising administering to a plant, a seed or soil a composition comprising an effective amount of
a compound of Formula V or a salt thereof

A 1 is phenyl, pyrazyl, oxazolyl or isoxazolyl each of which can be optionally independently substituted with one or more substituents selected from halogen, CF 3 , CH 3 , OCF 3 , OCH 3 , CN, and C(H)O; and
C 1 is thienyl, furanyl, oxazolyl or isoxazolyl each of which can be optionally independently substituted with one or more substituents selected from fluorine, chlorine, CH 3 , and OCF 3 .

44. A method for control of plant parasitic nematodes, the method comprising administering to a plant, a seed or soil a composition comprising an effective amount of a compound of Formula V or a salt thereof

A 1 is phenyl, pyridyl, pyrazyl, oxazolyl or isoxazolyl each of which can be optionally independently substituted with one or more substituents selected from halogen, CF 3 , CH 3 , OCF 3 , OCH 3 , CN, and C(H)O; and
C 1 is oxazolyl which can be optionally independently substituted with one or more substituents selected from fluorine, chlorine, CH 3 , and OCF 3 .
45. The method of claim 44 wherein A 1 is phenyl.
46. The method of claim 44 wherein A 1 is pyridyl.
47. The method of claim 44 wherein A 1 is pyrazyl.
48. The method of claim 44 wherein A 1 is oxazolyl.
49. The method of claim 44 wherein A 1 is isoxazolyl.
50. The method of any one of claims 17 , 18 , 29 and 44 wherein the composition comprises a surfactant.
51. The method of any one of claims 17 , 18 , 29 and 44 wherein the composition includes one or more of an insecticide, a fungicide, a herbicide, or other pesticide.
52. The method of any one of claims 17 , 18 , 29 and 44 wherein the composition is applied to a plant susceptible to infection by one or more of Pratylenchus spp, Heterodera spp, Globodera spp, Meloidogyne spp, Rotylenchulus spp, Hoplolaimus spp, Belonolaimus spp, Longidorus spp, Paratrichodorus spp, Ditylenchus spp, Xiphinema spp, Helicotylenchus spp, Radopholus spp, Hirschmanniella spp, Tylenchorhynchus spp, and Trichodorus spp.
53. The method of claim 15 wherein the insecticide, fungicide, herbicide or the pesticide is selected from the group consisting of avermectin, ivermectin, milbemycin, imidacloprid, aldicarb, oxamyl, fenamiphos, fosthiazate, metam sodium, etridiazole, penta-chloro-nitrobenzene (PCNB), flutolanil, metalaxyl, mefenoxam, fosetyl-al, silthiofam, fludioxonil, myclobutanil, azoxystrobin, chlorothalonil, propiconazole, tebuconazole, pyraclostrobin, trifloxysulfuron, glyphosate and halosulfuron.
54. The method of claim 28 wherein the insecticide, fungicide, herbicide or the pesticide is selected from the group consisting of avermectin, ivermectin, milbemycin, imidacloprid, aldicarb, oxamyl, fenamiphos, fosthiazate, metam sodium, etridiazole, penta-chloro-nitrobenzene (PCNB), flutolanil, metalaxyl, mefenoxam, fosetyl-al, silthiofam, fludioxonil, myclobutanil, azoxystrobin, chlorothalonil, propiconazole, tebuconazole, pyraclostrobin, trifloxysulfuron, glyphosate and halosulfuron.
55. The method of claim 51 wherein the insecticide, fungicide, herbicide or the pesticide is selected from the group consisting of avermectin, ivermectin, milbemycin, imidacloprid, aldicarb, oxamyl, fenamiphos, fosthiazate, metam sodium, etridiazole, penta-chloro-nitrobenzene (PCNB), flutolanil, metalaxyl, mefenoxam, fosetyl-al, silthiofam, fludioxonil, myclobutanil, azoxystrobin, chlorothalonil, propiconazole, tebuconazole, pyraclostrobin, trifloxysulfuron, glyphosate and halosulfuron.
56. The method of any one of claims 17 , 18 , 29 and 44 wherein the composition is applied to seeds.
57. A method for control of plant parasitic nematodes, the method comprising administering to a plant, a seed or soil a composition comprising an effective amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of:
3-phenyl-5-(thiophen-2-yl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole,
5-(furan-2-yl)-3-phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole,
3-(4-fluorophenyl)-5-(thiophen-2-yl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole,
3-(4-fluorophenyl)-5-(furan-2-yl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole,
3-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-(thiophen-2-yl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole,

The method of claim 57 wherein the composition is applied to a plant susceptible to infection by one or more of Pratylenchus spp, Heterodera spp, Globodera spp, Meloidogyne spp, Rotylenchulus spp, Hoplolaimus spp, Belonolaimus spp, Longidorus spp, Paratrichodorus spp, Ditylenchus spp, Xiphinema spp, Helicotylenchus spp, Radopholus spp, Hirschmanniella spp, Tylenchorhynchus spp, and Trichodorus spp.
60. The method of claim 58 wherein the insecticide, fungicide, herbicide or the pesticide is selected from the group consisting of avermectin, ivermectin, milbemycin, imidacloprid, aldicarb, oxamyl, fenamiphos, fosthiazate, metam sodium, etridiazole, penta-chloro-nitrobenzene (PCNB), flutolanil, metalaxyl, mefenoxam, fosetyl-al, silthiofam, fludioxonil, myclobutanil, azoxystrobin, chlorothalonil, propiconazole, tebuconazole, pyraclostrobin, trifloxysulfuron, glyphosate and halosulfuron.
61. The method of claim 57 wherein the composition is applied to seeds.
62. The method of claim 57 wherein the compound is 3-phenyl-5(thiophen-2-yl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole.
