Corrugated metallic foil tape
A metallic foil tape having a top surface and a bottom surface with an adhesive applied to at least one of the top surface or the bottom surface of the metallic foil tape and corrugations in the metallic foil tape providing for expansion of the corrugated metallic foil tape in a circular or semi-circular shape. The corrugated metallic foil tape is suitable to be applied to contoured or three-dimensional surfaces, and is particularly suitable for use in sealing or joining components of heat, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) units.
1 . A metallic foil tape having a top surface and a bottom surface, the metallic foil tape comprising corrugations and an adhesive applied to at least one of the top surface or the bottom surface of the metallic foil tape.
2 . The metallic foil tape according to claim 1 , wherein the corrugated metallic foil tape expands in a circular or semi-circular shape.
3 . The metallic foil tape according to claim 1 , wherein the adhesive is a pressure sensitive adhesive.
4 . The metallic foil tape according to claim 3 , wherein the pressure sensitive adhesive is selected from the group consisting of acrylic, synthetic rubber, natural rubber, polyurethane, styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), synthetic isoprene rubber, ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers, and silicone.
5 . The metallic foil tape according to claim 1 , wherein the adhesive is a high shear adhesive.
6 . The metallic foil tape according to claim 1 , wherein the metallic tape is an aluminum foil tape.
7 . The metallic foil tape according to claim 1 , wherein the corrugations are parallel to one another.
8 . A method of making a metallic foil tape, the method comprising:
obtaining a flat metallic foil tape, and
corrugating the flat metallic foil tape to form corrugations in the flat metallic foil tape.
9 . The method according to claim 8 , further comprising applying an adhesive to the flat metallic foil tape.
10 . The method according to claim 9 , wherein the corrugations in the corrugated metallic foil tape provide for expansion of the corrugated metallic foil tape in a circular or semi-circular shape.
11 . The method according to claim 9 , wherein the adhesive is a pressure sensitive adhesive.
12 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the pressure sensitive adhesive is selected from the group consisting of acrylic, synthetic rubber, natural rubber, polyurethane, styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), synthetic isoprene rubber, ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers, and silicone.
13 . The method according to claim 9 , wherein the adhesive is a high shear adhesive.
14 . The method according to claim 9 , wherein the flat metallic foil tape is an aluminum foil tape.
15 . The method according to claim 9 , wherein the corrugations are parallel to one another.
16 . A method of using a corrugated metallic foil tape, the method comprising:
obtaining a corrugated metallic foil tape having an adhesive applied thereon, and
applying the corrugated metallic foil tape to a heating, ventilation, or air conditioning unit.
17 . The method according to claim 16 , wherein the corrugated metallic foil tape is applied in a circular or semi-circular shape.
18 . The method according to claim 16 , wherein the tape is applied to a plenum, collar, trunk, or branch of a heating, ventilation, or air conditioning unit.
19 . The method according to claim 16 , wherein the corrugated metallic foil tape is an aluminum metallic foil tape.
20 . The method according to claim 16 , wherein the adhesive is a pressure sensitive adhesive.
