Targeting VEGF-B regulation of fatty acid transporters to modulate human diseases
The present invention provides materials and methods for modulating FATP expression and/or activity in vivo. The materials and methods have numerous diagnostic, prophylactic, and therapeutic applications for various diseases and conditions that are influenced by FATPs, or characterized by excessive or inadequate FATP expression or activity.
1. A method of inhibiting VEGF-B mediated expression of fatty acid transport protein 3 (FATP3) in endothelial cells of a human subject comprising administering to a human subject in need of inhibition of VEGF-B mediated expression of FATP3 a composition that comprises a VEGF-B antibody that binds to and inhibits human VEGF-B in an amount effective to inhibit VEGF-B mediated expression of FATP3 in endothelial cells in the subject.
2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the subject has type II diabetes.
3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the VEGF-B antibody binds to one or both of VEGF-B 167 and VEGF-B 186 .
4. The method according to claim 1 wherein the subject has diabetes and the VEGF-B antibody is administered in combination with an anti-diabetic agent.
5. The method according to claim 4 wherein the VEGF-B antibody and the anti-diabetic agent are administered separately or in the form of a combination product.
