Abstract

Disclosed are a plate assembly for a battery, a core and a lithium ion battery. The plate assembly comprises a plate, a conductive terminal and a membrane bag, the plate is encapsulated in the membrane bag, an encapsulation line is formed when the membrane bag is encapsulated, and the conductive terminal is disposed at one end of the plate and protruded out of the membrane bag, wherein the encapsulation line has at least two loops around the periphery of the plate. The core comprises the plate assembly of the present invention. The lithium ion battery comprises the core of the present invention. Since the membrane bag included in the plate assembly of the present invention is encapsulated by at least two loops of encapsulation line around the periphery of the plate, the membrane bag can be encapsulated tightly, which can prevent effectively the membrane bag from being cracked, and prevent the short circuit from being occurred due to the contact of the positive and negative plates, and thereby effectively improves the mechanical impact resistance of the battery.

Claims (34)

1. An encapsulated electrode plate for a battery, comprising:

an electrode plate with a rectangular periphery, the periphery comprising, in its two major dimensions, a top side, a bottom side and two sides; and

a membrane that encapsulates the electrode plate, the membrane comprising two or more encapsulating loops along each side of the periphery of the electrode plate when the electrode plate is encapsulated, wherein the at least two encapsulating loops comprise an inner and an outer loop, and wherein the two or more encapsulating loops are in the same plane,

wherein each encapsulating loop includes a plurality of air release gaps and the air release gaps on one encapsulating loop are staggered with the air release gaps on an adjacent encapsulating loop.

2. The encapsulated plate of claim 1 , wherein the membrane comprises between 2 and 4 encapsulating loops in the same plane.

3. The encapsulated plate of claim 1 , wherein the encapsulating loops along each side of the periphery in the same plane are substantially parallel to each other.

4. The encapsulated plate of claim 1 , wherein the distance between adjacent encapsulating loops in the same plane is between about 0.1 and about 5 mm.

5. The encapsulated plate of claim 4 , wherein the distance between adjacent encapsulating loops in the same plane is between about 1 and about 3 mm.

6. The encapsulated plate of claim 1 , wherein at least some of the air release gaps on one encapsulating loop overlap with the air release gaps of an adjacent encapsulating loop.

7. The encapsulated plate of claim 6 , wherein the overlap has a size of about 0.1-5 mm.

8. The encapsulated plate of claim 6 , wherein the air release gaps comprise about 5-50 percent of each encapsulating loop.

9. The encapsulated plate of claim 1 , wherein the plate has a corner; wherein the two or more encapsulating loops in the same plane are connected to each other at a corner of the plate.

10. The encapsulated plate of claim 1 , wherein the encapsulating loops have a width of between about 0.3 and about 1.5 mm.

11. The encapsulated plate of claim 10 , wherein the encapsulating loops have a width of between about 0.5 and about 1 mm.

12. The encapsulated plate of claim 1 , wherein the plate comprises a conductive terminal protruding from the membrane.

13. The encapsulated plate of claim 1 , wherein the membrane extends between about 2 and about 10 mm beyond each side of the periphery of the plate.

14. A core for a battery comprising a plurality of membrane encapsulated electrode plates, the encapsulated electrode plates comprising:

a plurality of electrode plates, each with a rectangular periphery, the periphery comprising, in its two major dimensions, a top side, a bottom side, and two sides; and

a membrane encapsulating each electrode plate, the membrane comprising two or more encapsulating loops along each side of the periphery of the electrode plate when the electrode plate is encapsulated, wherein the at least two encapsulating loops comprise an inner and an outer loop, and wherein the two or more encapsulating loops are in the same plane,
