Abstract

A food package kit including a plurality of trays having a bottom, a sidewall extending upwardly from the bottom and terminating at a top end, and a flange extending from the sidewall opposite the bottom, the flange includes a rim section configured to receive a sealing film, and a recessed section extending from the rim section, wherein each of the opposed longitudinal edges intersect with a lateral edge at a corner, wherein the kit also includes a sleeve adapted to contain the trays completely therein, the sleeve including a sleeve top, a first depending sleeve side, and a second depending sleeve side and a sleeve bottom, wherein the tray is completely disposed within the sleeve by frictional force between the tray and the sleeve.

Claims (29)

1. A food package kit comprising:

a plurality of trays, each tray including—

a bottom,

a sidewall extending upwardly from the bottom and terminating at a top end, the sidewall comprising a base section extending upwardly from the bottom, an intermediate section extending upwardly from the base section, and an upper section extending upwardly from the intermediate section, wherein the upper section includes structure defining a collar extending radially outwardly from the intermediate section, and a stacking wall extending upwardly from the collar and terminating at the top end of the sidewall, such that the upper section is adapted to inhibit a first tray of the plurality of trays from entirely nesting within a second tray of the plurality of trays, and

a flange extending from the sidewall opposite the bottom, the flange including—

a rim section configured to receive a sealing film, and

a recessed section extending downwardly from the rim section and radially outward relative to the sidewall, the recessed section terminating in a pair of opposed lateral edges and a pair of opposed longitudinal edges, wherein each of the opposed longitudinal edges intersect with a lateral edge at a corner, wherein each corner contains a handle, each handle including grips wherein said grips are located in a plane parallel to but lower than the flange;

a sealing film adapted to be attached to the rim section; and

a wrap-around sleeve adapted to contain the plurality of trays completely therein, the sleeve including a sleeve top, a first depending sleeve side, a second depending sleeve side, and a sleeve bottom, wherein the first and second depending sleeve sides are free of apertures, and wherein the at least one tray is disposed within the sleeve by frictional force between each tray of the at least one tray and the sleeve.

2. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the sleeve top comprises an opening tab to facilitate removal of the at least one tray from the sleeve.

3. The kit of claim 2 , wherein the opening tab is located in a same plane as the sleeve top when the kit is in an unopened position.

4. The kit of claim 3 , wherein the opening tab is located outside the plane of the sleeve top when the kit is in an opened position.

5. The kit of claim 2 , wherein the opening tab is formed by mechanical scoring techniques.

6. The kit of claim 2 , wherein the opening tab is formed by laser scoring techniques.

7. The kit of claim 2 , wherein the sleeve top further includes a plurality of perforation lines extending from the opening tab to an edge of the sleeve top.

8. The kit of claim 2 , wherein the opening tab includes a generally half-circular configuration.

9. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the second tray is disposed atop the first tray, and wherein the first tray and the second tray are completely disposed within the sleeve by frictional force between the first tray, the second tray, and the sleeve.

10. The kit of claim 9 , wherein the kit further includes a third tray and a fourth tray of the plurality of trays, each of the third tray and the fourth tray being substantially similar to the first tray, wherein the fourth tray is positioned atop the third tray, and wherein the fourth tray is positioned adjacent to the first tray and completely disposed within the sleeve by frictional force between the third tray and the sleeve.

11. A method of preparing food for subsequent sale, the method comprising:

providing a plurality of containers, each container including—

a bottom,

a sidewall extending upwardly from the bottom and terminating at a top end, the sidewall defining an interior, the sidewall comprising a base section extending upwardly from the bottom, an intermediate section extending upwardly from the base section, and an upper section extending upwardly from the intermediate section, wherein the upper section includes structure defining a collar extending radially outwardly from the intermediate section, and a stacking wall extending upwardly from the collar and terminating at the top end of the sidewall, such that the upper section is adapted to inhibit a first tray of the plurality of trays from entirely nesting within a second tray of the plurality of trays, and

a flange extending from the sidewall opposite the bottom, the flange including—

a rim section configured to receive a sealing film, and

a recessed section extending downwardly from the rim section and radially outward relative to the sidewall, the recessed section terminating in a pair of opposed lateral edges and a pair of opposed longitudinal edges, wherein each of the opposed longitudinal edges intersect with a lateral edge at a corner, wherein each corner contains a handle, each handle including grips wherein said grips are located in a plane parallel to but lower than the flange;

dispensing food in an interior of each container;

attaching a sealing film to the rim section of each container;

providing a wrap-around sleeve adapted to contain the plurality of containers completely therein, the sleeve including a sleeve top, a first depending sleeve side, a second depending sleeve side and a sleeve base, wherein the first and second depending sleeve sides are free of apertures; and

placing the plurality of containers completely within the sleeve so that frictional force between each container of the at least one container and the sleeve keeps the container inside the sleeve.
