Laminoplasty devices and methods
Laminoplasty plates are engageable to at least one portion of a divided lamina to maintain a desired spacing relative to the spinal canal. The laminoplasty plates include a spacer portion having a first end and a second end that spans a gap formed by at least one of a divided lamina portion. The laminoplasty plates can include a lamina engagement portion at one end for engagement with the divided lamina portion.

36 . A laminoplasty plate, comprising:
a spacer portion extending along a longitudinal axis between a first and a second end;
a first lamina engagement portion adjacent said first end, said first lamina engagement portion including at least one stabilizing flange including at least one securement hole extending therethrough aligned with the longitudinal axis of said spacer portion; and
a second lamina engagement portion adjacent said second end, said second lamina engagement portion including at least one stabilizing flange including at least one securement hole extending therethrough, wherein said spacer portion includes an elongated slot extending therethrough along said longitudinal axis.
37 . The plate of claim 36 , wherein said at least one stabilizing flange of said first lamina engagement portion includes a pair of securement holes aligned with the longitudinal axis of said spacer portion.
38 . The plate of claim 37 , wherein said at least one stabilizing flange of said second lamina engagement portion includes a pair of securement holes offset on opposite sides of the longitudinal axis of said spacer portion.
39 . The plate of claim 36 , wherein said at least one stabilizing flange of said second lamina engagement portion includes a pair of securement holes offset on opposite sides of the longitudinal axis of said spacer portion.

42 . The plate of claim 36 , wherein said spacer portion includes a width transverse to the longitudinal axis, said width being enlarged about said elongated slot.
43 . The plate of claim 36 , wherein said elongated slot includes a recessed surface extending therearound permitting variable angle placement of a securement device therethrough.
44 . The plate of claim 36 , wherein:
said at least one stabilizing flange of said first lamina engagement portion includes a pair of securement holes extending therethrough to receive securement devices, said pair of securement holes each being aligned along the longitudinal axis of said spacer portion; and
said at least one stabilizing flange of said second lamina engagement portion includes a pair of securement holes extending therethrough to receive securement devices.
45 . The plate of claim 44 , wherein said pair of securement holes of said at least one lamina stabilizing flange of said second lamina engagement portion are offset on opposite sides of said longitudinal axis and aligned along an axis extending orthogonally to the longitudinal axis of said spacer portion.
46 . The plate of claim 44 , wherein:
said at least one stabilizing flange of said first lamina engagement portion includes a pair of nodes, each of which includes a corresponding one of said pair of securement holes thereof; and
said at least one stabilizing flange of said second lamina engagement portion includes a pair of nodes, each of which includes a corresponding one of said pair of securement holes thereof.
47 . The plate of claim 46 , wherein:
said at least one stabilizing flange of said first lamina engagement portion includes a reduced width portion between said pair of nodes thereof and said spacer portion; and
said at least one stabilizing flange of said second lamina engagement portion includes a reduced width portion between said pair of nodes thereof and said spacer portion.
48 . The plate of claim 46 , wherein each of said securement holes includes a recessed surface therearound permitting variable angle placement of securement devices therein.
49 . The plate of claim 36 wherein:
said at least one stabilizing flange of said first lamina engagement portion forms a first angle with said spacer portion; and
said at least one stabilizing flange of said second lamina engagement portion forms a second angle with said spacer portion.
50 . The plate of claim 49 , wherein said first and second angles each range from about 35 degrees to about 55 degrees.
51 . The plate of claim 49 , wherein said first and second angles are each about 45 degrees.
52 . The plate of claim 49 , wherein said at least one stabilizing flanges of each of said first and second lamina engagement portions extend generally parallel to one another from said spacer portion.
