Abstract

There is disclosed a media file distribution system and method. An asset management and delivery system and method for the distribution of digital files and data is provided. There are two major functions, with sub-functions within each. The system first serves as a fully automated management system for a company involved in video/file distribution, such as in video on demand (VOD) or other digital file industries. The system can ingest, prepare, schedule, transmit, track and report on any aspect of the business chain. Secondly, it also serves as a product for both content providers and recipients to be able to view, manage and run their entire content offering remotely from anywhere through the Internet.

Claims (14)

1 . A method for administrating a contract for distribution of a media file to a recipient site, comprising:

receiving a media file from a content provider over a first communication network;

entering contract parameter data into the received media file according to a contract between the content provider and the recipient site;

calculating metadata for the received media file based on the contract parameter data;

storing the calculated metadata in site specific parameters of the received media file; and

distributing the received media file to the recipient site over a second communication network, according to the site specific parameters.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the metadata includes price limitations that the recipient site can charge for viewing of the media file.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the metadata includes time limitations defining limitations regarding a time that the recipient site can present the media file.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first communication network is the Internet or a satellite link.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second communication network is the Internet, a cable, or a satellite link.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising editing the contract parameter data and the metadata by the content provide or the recipient site.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing a contract template for creating a new contract.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said media file is for use in a video play back.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said media file is for use in gaming.
