Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for filling and cleaning a pulp tower. The invention is most suitable for filling and cleaning high-consistency pulp towers, bleaching towers, storage tanks and similar towers containing fiber suspensions, of the wood-processing industry. The apparatus and method according to the invention for filling and cleaning a pulp tower, in which method pulp is fed into the pulp tower either through its cover ( 10 ) or at least feed devices ( 24 ) arranged at its top, are characterized in that the space surrounding the feed device ( 24 ) is washable at the same time as the pulp is fed into the tower by means of washing devices ( 28, 30, 32 ) arranged in connection with the feed devices.

Claims (17)

1. An apparatus for filling and cleaning a pulp tower, comprising:

a rotatable feed device configured for feeding pulp into the tower, comprising:

a shaft, and

a pulp feeder means at the lower end of the shaft; and

a washing device connected to the feed device, configured to wash the space surrounding the feed device, the washing device comprising a washing liquid channel arranged in connection with the shaft, and at least one pipe for carrying washing liquid from the channel to washing nozzles.

2. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the feeder means and washing device are placed so that feeding of the washing liquid and the pulp into the tower occurs substantially in different directions.

3. An apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein the pipe for carrying washing liquid from the channel to the washing nozzles is fastened on the shaft and provided with the washing nozzles.

4. An apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein the pipe for carrying washing liquid from the channel to the washing nozzles is fastened on the shaft or the feeder means, wherein the pipe carries the washing liquid to a nozzle system located away from the shaft, and wherein the pipe acts as a support for the nozzle system.

5. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the channel extends along the shaft to outside of the tower, the apparatus further comprising a rotating connector outside of the tower, configured to carry washing liquid to the channel.

6. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said channel is inside the shaft.

7. An apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising one or more washing nozzles for washing an inside wall or ceiling of the tower arranged in connection with the feeder means.

8. An apparatus according to claim 7 , wherein the washing nozzles are arranged such that they will not come into contact with a pulp jet discharging from the feeder means.

9. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the feed device comprises a drive mechanism of the feeder means, whose rotational speed is controlled by a control unit.

10. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the feeder means has an adjustable rotational speed.

11. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the feed device further comprises a tower level sensor and a control unit.

12. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the feeder means and the washing device rotate intermittently.

13. An apparatus according to claim 1 , further configured such that a pulp jet fed by the pulp feeder means does not hit a wall of the tower.
