Abstract

An apparatus for combining input signals produced by a plurality of electric musical devices includes a plurality of audio buses and a plurality of segments. Each segment includes input circuitry configured to receive at least one input signal from at least one electric musical device and to deliver the at least one input signal to one of the plurality of audio buses; a plurality of variable adjustment devices each associated with a corresponding one of the audio buses and each configured to change at least one property of an input signal received by another of the plurality of segments and carried on the corresponding one of the audio buses independent from input signals carried on other of the plurality of audio buses; and a mixer configured to combine the input signals carried on each of the plurality of audio buses into an output signal.

Claims (64)

1. An apparatus comprising:

a plurality of audio buses; and

a plurality of segments, each segment including

input circuitry,

a mixer, and

each segment being associated with

an associated audio bus from said plurality of audio buses,

wherein each input circuitry is configured

to receive at least one input signal from at least one electric musical device, and

to deliver the at least one input signal to the associated audio bus from the plurality of audio buses,

wherein, for each of the plurality of segments, each of the variable adjustment devices

is associated with a corresponding one of the audio buses, and

is configured to change at least one property of an input signal received by input circuitry associated with another of the plurality of segments and carried on the corresponding one of the audio buses independent from input signals carried on other of the plurality of audio buses, and

wherein, for each of the plurality of segments, the mixer is configured to combine the input signals changed by the variable adjustment devices associated with the segment into an output signal; wherein each of the plurality of segments is removably docked to a housing.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one property of the input signal includes a gain of the input signal.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the input circuitry includes circuitry for adjusting at least one property of the at least one input signal prior to delivering the at least one input signal to one of the plurality of audio buses.

4. The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the input circuitry includes circuitry for adjusting a gain of the at least one input signal.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the input circuitry includes circuitry for adjusting a proportion of the at least one first input signal delivered to each of a first channel and a second channel of the first audio bus.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising output circuitry configured to adjust a volume of the output signal and to deliver the output signal to an output device.

7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the output device is a set of headphones.

8. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the output device is a digital recorder.

9. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the output circuitry includes an amplifier.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the segments is remotely operable.

11. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a phantom power switch.

12. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of audio buses are contained within a housing.

13. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the housing is portable.

14. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of segments are arranged radially within the housing.

15. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the housing is a docking station.

16. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the variable adjustment devices comprise potentiometers.

17. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the input signals are analog input signals.

18. A method for combining input signals produced by a plurality of electric musical devices, comprising:

receiving a plurality of input signals into a corresponding plurality of segments, each of the plurality of segments removably docked to a housing;

for each segment,

delivering the corresponding input signal to an associated bus from a plurality of audio buses;

for each segment,

changing at least one property of an input signal received by another of the plurality of segments and carried on the corresponding one of the plurality of audio buses independently from input signals carried on others of the plurality of audio buses; and

for each segment,

combining the changed input signals into an output signal.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the at least one property of each input signal includes a gain of the input signal.

20. The method of claim 18 , further comprising adjusting a gain of each input signal before directing each input signal into an audio bus.

21. The method of claim 18 , wherein directing each input signal into an audio bus comprises adjusting a proportion of the input signal sent to each of a first channel and a second channel of the audio bus.

22. The method of claim 18 , further comprising adjusting a volume of the output signal and delivering the output signal to an output device.

23. The method of claim 22 , wherein the output device is a set of headphones.

24. An apparatus for generating an output signal from at least first and second input signals from corresponding first and second electric musical devices, said apparatus comprising:

a first audio bus;

a second audio bus;

a first segment, said first segment including

input circuitry for receiving an input signal from a first electric musical device and delivering said signal to said first audio bus;

a first variable adjustment device having an input connected to said first audio bus and an output, said first variable adjustment device being configured to change a property of an input signal on said first audio bus;

a second variable adjustment device having an input connected to said second audio bus and an output, said second variable adjustment device being configured to change a property of an input signal on said second audio bus; and

a mixer configured to combine signals received from said outputs of said first and second variable adjustment devices into an output signal; a second segment, said second segment including: input circuitry for receiving an input signal from a second electric musical device and delivering said second electric musical input signal to said second audio bus; wherein the first segment and the second segment is removably docked to a housing.

25. The apparatus of claim 24 , wherein, said second segment includes:
