Abstract

Provided is a pharmaceutical composition for the treatment and prevention of obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndromes, degenerative diseases and mitochondrial dysfunction-related diseases, comprising: a therapeutically effective amount of a compound represented by Formula I below, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, prodrug, solvate or isomer thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, a diluent or an excipient, or any combination thereof.

Claims (13)

1. A method of treating a disease syndrome selected from the group consisting of obesity and type 2 diabetes, comprising administering to the subject a pharmaceutical composition comprising:

(a) a therapeutically effective amount of a compound represented by Formula I:

wherein

R 1 and R 2 are each independently hydrogen, halogen, alkoxy, hydroxy or lower alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms;

R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , R 6 , R 7 and R 8 are each independently hydrogen, hydroxy, C 1 -C 20 alkyl, alkene, alkoxy, cycloalkyl, heterocycloalkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, or two substituents of R 3 to R 8 may be taken together to form a cyclic structure; and

n is 0 or 1, with proviso that when n is 0, carbon atoms adjacent to n form a cyclic structure via a direct bond,

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt; and

(b) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, a diluent, an excipient, or any combination thereof.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the compound of Formula I is selected from compounds of Formulae II and III:

wherein, R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , R 6 , R 7 and R 8 are as defined in Formula I.

3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein each R 1 and R 2 is hydrogen.

4. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the compound of Formula II is a compound of Formula IIa wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 4 are independently hydrogen, or a compound of Formula IIb wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 6 are independently hydrogen:

5. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the compound of Formula III is a compound of Formula IIIa wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 5 , R 6 , R 7 and R 8 are independently hydrogen:
