Abstract

Search and retrieval of information shared between members of a social mobile networks is facilitated. The search returns results in an order that is based on relevance measurements unique to each member. A comprehensive map of the interactions and behaviors that take place between the members of a social mobile network is discovered and maintained. Such maps are used to assign a unique relevance measurement for each member of each social mobile network.

Claims (45)

1. A system comprising:

one or more processors;

memory coupled to the one or more processors, the memory encoded with a set of instructions configured to:

define a social mobile network for a user of a mobile communication device based on communication between the user and one or more contacts associated with the user;

receive a search request defined by a plurality of alphanumeric characters, the search request being directed to the social mobile network;

search a shared content database associated with the social mobile network and extract, based on the plurality of alphanumeric characters, a plurality of search results from the shared content database;

rank the plurality of search results based on relevance measurements associated with the search results, the relevance measurements of the search results being unique to the user within the social mobile network; and

present the ranked search results to the mobile communication device.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the set of instructions are further configured to:

form one or more maps by observing interactions and behaviors that take place within the social mobile network; and

assign a relevance measurement for each search result by using the one or more formed maps, wherein the plurality of search results are ranked based on the assigned relevance measurements.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the set of instructions are further configured to:

determine the relevance measurements associated with the search results, the relevance measurements determined based on actions and behavior of those who are in the social mobile network such that search results that are used more frequently or used by multiple members of the social mobile network appear higher in the ranked results than those that are used less frequently.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the relevance measurements are further determined based on a type of the search result such that a particular search result that corresponds to a software application appears higher in the ranked results than other types of search results.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the social mobile network for the user of the mobile communication device is automatically defined by a server as a result of a phone call communication between the user and the one or more contacts, an e-mail communication between the user and the one or more contacts, or a messaging communication between the user and the one or more contacts, wherein the one or more contacts is a subset of contacts in a contact list of the user.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the set of instructions are further configured to:

receive an indication from the user to share content in the shared content database associated with the social mobile network;

initiate an indexing of any newly shared content; and

send one or more notifications to the one or more contacts in the social mobile network when the newly shared content is available.

7. A method comprising:

defining, by a server computer, a social mobile network for a user of a mobile communication device based on communication between the user and one or more contacts associated with the user;

receiving a search request defined by a plurality of alphanumeric characters, the search request being directed to the social mobile network;

searching a shared content database associated with the social mobile network and extracting, based on the plurality of alphanumeric characters, a plurality of search results from the shared content database;

ranking the plurality of search results based on relevance measurements associated with the search results, the relevance measurements of the search results being unique to the user within the social mobile network; and

presenting the ranked search results to the mobile communication device.

8. The method of claim 7 , the method further comprising

forming one or more maps by observing interactions and behaviors that take place within the social mobile network; and

assigning a relevance measurement for each search result by using the one or more formed maps, wherein the plurality of search results are ranked based on the assigned relevance measurements.

9. The method of claim 7 , the method further comprising:

determining the relevance measurements associated with the search results, the relevance measurements determined based on actions and behavior of those who are in the social mobile network such that search results that are used more frequently or used by multiple members of the social mobile network appear higher in the ranked results than those that are used less frequently.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the relevance measurements are further determined based on a type of the search result such that a particular search result that corresponds to a software application appears higher in the ranked results than other types of search results.

11. The method of claim 7 , wherein the social mobile network for the user of the mobile communication device is automatically defined by a server as a result of a phone call communication between the user and the one or more contacts, an e-mail communication between the user and the one or more contacts, or a messaging communication between the user and the one or more contacts, wherein the one or more contacts is a subset of contacts in a contact list of the user.

12. The method of claim 7 , the method further comprising:

receiving an indication from the user to share content in the shared content database associated with the social mobile network;

initiating an indexing of any newly shared content; and

sending one or more notifications to the one or more contacts in the social mobile network when the newly shared content is available.

13. A method for performing a search defined by a plurality of alphanumeric characters and initiated on a first mobile communication device associated with a first user, the method comprising:

tracking, by a behavior tracking component on a mobile computing device, a level of interaction between a user and a subset of contacts in a contact list associated with the user, the subset of contacts being within a social mobile network of the user, and the social mobile network being defined based on communication between the user and the subset of contacts;

receiving user input from the user directed to a search for an information item in the social mobile network, the user input including a plurality of alphanumeric characters;

obtaining a plurality of search results based at least in part on the received input, the plurality of search results being information items marked for sharing by the subset of contacts within the social mobile network; and

displaying a listing of the search results based on a ranking of the search results, wherein the search results are ranked based on relevance measurements associated with the search results.

14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising:

selectively marking one or more information items associated with the user to share with the subset of contacts within the social mobile network; and

transmitting the one or more information items to a server, wherein the one or more information items are stored in a shared content database, and wherein the shared content database is accessible to users of the social mobile network.

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the listing of search results are displayed based on a ranking that ranks information items that are used more frequently by multiple users in the social mobile network than those that are used less frequently.
