Abstract

A pigment of empirical composition (TiO 2 ) a (ZnO) b (SnO) c (SnO 2 ) d (RE x O y ) e (AEO) f (M u O v ) g wherein RE is a metal from transition group 3 or a rare earth metal, AE is an alkaline earth metal, and M is any other metal, where a=0.8-3; b=0.5-1.3; c=0.5-1.3; d=0-0.5; e=0-0.3; f=0-0.3; and g=0-0.1, and e+f≧0.01. Preferably RE is selected from the elements Y, La, Ce, and Pr. The pigments are used as colorants for coloring paints, inks, plastics, and rubber.
