Abstract

The present invention relates to the use of nucleoside derivatives of formula Ia wherein the symbols are as defined in the specification, and of pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof which inhibit HCV polymerase and are useful for treating a patient suffering from a HCV infection and to pharmaceutical compositions containing such compounds.

Claims (8)

1. A compound according to formula Ia wherein:

the compound is in the D configuration, and;

R is hydrogen or —[P(O)(OH)]—O] n H and n is 1, 2 or 3

R 1 is —N 3 , or C 3-6 alkynyl;

R 2 and R 3 are independently hydrogen, —OH or —NR 4 2 ;

R 4 is hydrogen or C 1-3 alkyl; or,

a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

2. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound according to claim 1 admixed with at least one carrier, diluent or excipient.
