Read/write apparatus and method for a magnetic storage medium comprised of magnetic nanoparticles contained within nanotubes
A magnetic storage medium is formed of magnetic nanoparticles that are encapsulated within nanotubes (e.g., carbon nanotubes).
1. A magnetic storage media configured to store information, comprising:
a plurality of nanotubes that each contain a magnetic nanoparticle, wherein information is represented by a magnetic polarization of each of said magnetic nanoparticles, wherein each of said magnetic nanoparticles is held in a static position within each of said nanotubes by friction;
a plurality of data sectors, said data sectors including first nanotubes that each contain a first magnetic nanoparticle; and
a plurality of servo sectors, said servo sectors including second nanotubes that each contain a second magnetic nanoparticle, wherein said first and second magnetic nanoparticles have a different coercivity.
2. The magnetic storage media of claim 1 , further comprising a data layer that encapsulates said nanotubes.
3. The magnetic storage media of claim 1 , further comprising a data header, said data header including a plurality of third nanotubes that each contain a third magnetic nanoparticle, said third magnetic nanoparticle having a coercivity that is different from the coercivity of the first and second magnetic nanoparticles.
4. The magnetic storage media of claim 1 , wherein said nanotubes are carbon nanotubes.
