Abstract

An automated flowback system allows control and operation of the system from a remote location away from the dangers of high-pressure gases or abrasives traveling at high velocities that cause damage or failure to equipment piping valves. The system provides techniques and mechanical components installed in flowlines in any position without having to cut and thread, weld or fabricate pipe to fit. This system includes an expansion coupling with axial adjusting lengths adequate to compensate for variations between two points. The expansion coupling is secured and installed into position eliminating field cut and threading, welding or fabrication. The system also includes a blast barrel with an installed choke nipple, choke bean or choke insert with a chosen orifice size for multiple chambered ports. The blast barrel retracts between two fixed points without having to dismantle any connections or be removed from the fluid flow.

Claims (11)

1. An expansion coupling ( 210 ) with axial adjusting lengths adequate to compensate for variations between two points for adjusting and installing between the two points for high-pressure fluid flow in a fluid delivery system, the expansion coupling comprising:

a master housing ( 216 ), comprising an inner master tube adapter ( 232 ) and a removable master housing joint ( 213 ) for affixing to a first point ( 236 );

an expansion sub primary screw ( 220 ) comprising double lead threads ( 226 ) for telescoping ( 227 ) and affixing the expansion sub primary screw ( 220 ) to the master housing ( 216 ) via internal threads ( 218 ) on the inner master tube adapter ( 232 ) in conjunction with external threads on the expansion sub primary screw ( 220 ), the expansion sub primary screw ( 220 ) comprising a hammer union ( 224 ) for affixing to a second point ( 238 ); and

at least one wash barrier ( 228 , 222 ).

2. The expansion coupling of claim 1 wherein the at least one wash barrier comprises at least one seal.

3. A method of connecting a first point of a high pressure fluid line to a second point of the high pressure fluid line, the method comprising the steps of:

providing an expansion coupling ( 210 ) with a master housing ( 216 ) and an inner master tube adapter ( 232 );

removably affixing a master housing joint ( 213 ) on a first end of the expansion coupling ( 210 ) to the first point ( 236 );

rotating ( 229 ) an expansion sub primary screw ( 220 ) to or from the master housing ( 216 ) via double lead outer threads ( 226 ) on the expansion sub primary screw ( 220 ) and internal threads ( 218 ) on the inner master tube adapter ( 232 ) to telescopically adjust ( 227 ) a length of the expansion coupling ( 210 ); and

removably affixing a hammer union ( 224 ) on a second end of the expansion coupling to the second point ( 238 ).

4. The method of claim 3 further comprising the step of sealing the fluid flow between the master housing and the inner master tube adapter.
