Abstract

A document with a cover having a first cover part, a second cover part, at least one internal page located between the two cover parts when the document is closed, a radiofrequency microcontroller, an antenna electrically connected to the radiofrequency microcontroller, and an electromagnetic shield capable of disrupting, at least partially, the wireless communication with the radiofrequency microcontroller when the document is closed and not disrupting the wireless communication when the document is opened. The electromagnetic shield is a wire grid. The wire mesh distance between each two adjacent wires of the wire grid is smaller than a radio-frequency wavelength used for communicating with the radiofrequency microcontroller, and is at least 0.1 millimeters and at most 40 millimeters.

Claims (16)

1. A passport comprising:

a cover having a first cover part and a second cover part;

at least one internal page located between the first cover part and the second cover part;

a radiofrequency microcontroller;

an antenna electrically connected to the radiofrequency microcontroller, wherein the antenna is shaped in a spiral shape;

an electromagnetic shield, shaped in a mirror image of the spiral shape of the antenna such that the electromagnetic shield is capable of disrupting, at least partially, the wireless communication with the radiofrequency microcontroller when the cover is closed,

wherein the electromagnetic shield aligns with the antenna when the cover is closed, and

wherein the electromagnetic shield does not disrupt the wireless communication when the cover is opened.

2. The passport of claim 1 , wherein the electromagnetic shield is incorporated into the first cover part.

3. The passport of claim 2 , wherein the antenna is incorporated into the second cover part.

4. The passport of claim 1 , wherein the electromagnetic shield is incorporated into the second cover part.

5. The passport of claim 4 , wherein the antenna is incorporated into the first cover part.

6. The passport of claim 1 , wherein the electromagnetic shield is implemented on the at least one internal page.

7. The passport of claim 1 , wherein conductance of the electromagnetic shield is greater than conductance of the antenna.

8. The passport of claim 1 , wherein the magnetic shield is a wire grid, wherein the wire grid is implemented using at least one selected from a group consisting of magnetic ink and conductive ink.

9. The passport of claim 1 , wherein the first cover part comprises plastic.
