High efficiency actuator method, system and apparatus
A method, system and apparatus including a mechanism capable of performing a variety of operations, each operation having a respective power requirement and a power source capable of providing power to the mechanism at a variety of different levels corresponding to the operations being undertaken by the mechanism where the power source is regulated to at least provide a first lower power level sufficient for one or more operations requiring a lower power level and is increased to provide a higher power level as needed for one or more alternative operations requiring a higher power level.
1. A mobile robot, comprising:
at least one actuator member;
at least one manipulator in operable communication with the at least one actuator member;
a variable power source for providing power to the actuator member at a variety of levels; and
means for operating the power source as desired at a first power level less than the maximum power level of the variable power source and increasing the power level of the power source to one or more levels higher than the first power level up to and including the maximum power level of the power source, the first power level being capable of providing enough power to the at least one actuator member for one or more tasks to be undertaken by the actuator member so that the power consumption of the mobile robot is limited for one or more operations yet enables the mobile robot to handle operations requiring more power as demanded while conserving energy of the mobile robot.
2. The mobile robot as defined in claim 1 , wherein the mobile robot is a humanoid robot.
3. The mobile robot as defined in claim 1 , wherein the mobile robot is capable of bipedal motion.
