Abstract

A gage having a motion detection mechanism magnetically attached to a pressure sensing diaphragm. The motion detection mechanism is magnetically coupled to a pointer rotation mechanism configured to indicate the position of the diaphragm and the corresponding pressure sensed by the diaphragm.

Claims (10)

1. A gage for sensing pressure, said gage comprising:

a base member;

a resiliently flexible beam having a first end and a second end, said first end of said beam coupled to said base member;

a flexible diaphragm having an outer rim coupled to said base member and a post having a proximal end, a distal end and a central axis, said post being movable along said central axis in response to pressure changes sensed by said diaphragm; and

a connector member coupling said distal end of said post to said beam such that movement of said post along said central axis causes movement of said second end of said beam, whereby the position of said second end of said beam is indicative of a sensed pressure.

2. The gage of claim 1 wherein said connector member includes a curved surface in point engagement with said beam.

3. The gage of claim 1 wherein said beam includes an attachment magnet and said connector member comprises a metal curved surface magnetically coupled to said attachment magnet of said beam, whereby said diaphragm is adapted to push said second end of said beam in a first direction from a non-biased position of said beam and said diaphragm is adapted to pull said second end of said beam from said non-biased position in a second direction opposite said first direction.

4. The gage of claim 3 wherein said connector member comprises a generally spherical member.

5. The gage of claim 1 wherein said diaphragm comprises a rigid diaphragm plate, said proximal end of said post connected to said diaphragm plate, said post being generally perpendicular to said diaphragm plate, and a flexible generally annular diaphragm member extending around and coupled to said diaphragm plate, said diaphragm member including said outer rim and an annular convexly curved surface extending between said diaphragm plate and said outer rim.

6. The gage of claim 3 including a drive magnet attached to said second end of said beam, a helix rotatably coupled to said base member, and a pointer coupled to said helix, said helix being magnetically coupled to said drive magnet such that movement of said second end of said beam causes conjoint rotational movement of said helix and said pointer.
