Abstract

Provided are methods for improving the appearance aging or of peri-menopausal, menopausal, or post-menopausal skin comprising: applying to the skin tissue of a mammal in need of such regulation, a safe and effective amount of a composition comprising at least one Szeto-Schiller peptide and a dermatologically acceptable carrier. Compositions for use in the methods are also provided.

Claims (55)

1 . A method of improving the appearance of peri-menopausal, menopausal, or post-menopausal skin comprising: applying to the skin tissue of a mammal in need of such regulation, a safe and effective amount of a composition comprising at least one Szeto-Schiller peptide and a dermatologically acceptable carrier.

2 . The method of claim 1 wherein the peptide is Tyr-D-Arg-Phe-Lys-NH 2 (SEQ. ID. NO: 1).

3 . The method of claim 1 wherein the peptide is Dmt-D-Arg-Phe-Lys-NH 2 (SEQ. ID. NO: 2).

4 . The method of claim 1 wherein the peptide is Phe-D-Arg-Phe-Lys-NH 2 (SEQ. ID. NO. 3).

5 . The method of claim 1 wherein the peptide is D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH 2 (SEQ ID. NO: 4).

6 . The method of claim 1 wherein the peptide is in the range from 10 ppm to 1000 ppm.

7 . The method of claim 6 wherein the peptide is the range from 50 ppm to 500 ppm.

8 . The method of claim 1 comprising up to 0.1% by weight of peptide.

9 . The method of claim 1 wherein the carrier comprises lecithin.

The method of claim 1 wherein said composition further comprises one or more additional ingredients selected from the group consisting of: ascorbic acid and ascorbic acid derivatives; lipoic acid; α-hydroxy acids; and tocotrienols and tocotrienol derivatives and vitamin E compositions enriched with tocotrienols or tocotrienol derivatives.

11 . The method of claim 1 wherein severe skin dryness, dullness, or lack of radiance are improved.

12 . A method of preventing or retarding exaggerated lines and wrinkles of peri-menopausal, menopausal, or post-menopausal skin comprising: applying to the skin tissue of a mammal in need of such regulation, a safe and effective amount of a composition comprising at least one Szeto-Schiller peptide and a dermatologically acceptable carrier.

13 . The method of claim 12 wherein the peptide is Tyr-D-Arg-Phe-Lys-NH 2 (SEQ. ID. NO: 1).

14 . The method of claim 12 wherein the peptide is Dmt-D-Arg-Phe-Lys-NH 2 (SEQ. ID. NO: 2).

15 . The method of claim 12 wherein the peptide is Phe-D-Arg-Phe-Lys-NH 2 (SEQ. ID. NO. 3).

16 . The method of claim 12 wherein the peptide is D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH 2 (SEQ ID. NO: 4).

17 . The method of claim 12 wherein the peptide is in the range from 10 ppm to 1000 ppm.

18 . The method of claim 17 wherein the peptide is in the range from 50 ppm to 500 ppm.

19 . The method of claim 12 comprising up to 0.1% by weight of peptide.

20 . The method of claim 12 wherein the carrier comprises lecithin.

21 . The method of claim 12 wherein said composition further comprises one or more additional ingredients selected from the group consisting of: ascorbic acid and ascorbic acid derivatives; lipoic acid; α-hydroxy acids; and tocotrienols and tocotrienol derivatives and vitamin E compositions enriched with tocotrienols or tocotrienol derivatives.

22 . A method of preventing or retarding the appearance of spider vessels or red blotchiness in peri-menopausal, menopausal, or post-menopausal skin comprising: applying to the skin tissue of a mammal in need of such regulation, a safe and effective amount of a composition comprising at least one Szeto-Schiller peptide and a dermatologically acceptable carrier.

23 . The method of claim 22 wherein the peptide is Tyr-D-Arg-Phe-Lys-NH 2 (SEQ. ID. NO: 1).

24 . The method of claim 22 wherein the peptide is Dmt-D-Arg-Phe-Lys-NH 2 (SEQ. ID. NO: 2).

25 . The method of claim 22 wherein the peptide is Phe-D-Arg-Phe-Lys-NH 2 (SEQ. ID. NO. 3).

26 . The method of claim 22 wherein the peptide is D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH 2 (SEQ ID. NO: 4).

27 . The method of claim 22 wherein the peptide is in the range from 10 ppm to 1000 ppm.

28 . The method of claim 27 wherein the peptide is the range from 50 ppm to 500 ppm.

29 . The method of claim 22 comprising up to 0.1% by weight of peptide.

30 . The method of claim 22 wherein the carrier comprises lecithin.

31 . The method of claim 22 wherein said composition further comprises one or more additional ingredients selected from the group consisting of: ascorbic acid and ascorbic acid derivatives; lipoic acid; α-hydroxy acids; and tocotrienols and tocotrienol derivatives and vitamin E compositions enriched with tocotrienols or tocotrienol derivatives.

32 . A method of improving the appearance aging skin comprising: applying to the skin tissue of a mammal in need of such regulation, a safe and effective amount of a composition containing D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH 2 (SEQ ID. NO: 4) in a dermatologically acceptable carrier.

33 . The method of claim 32 wherein the amount of D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH 2 (SEQ ID. NO: 4) is in the range from 10 ppm to 1000 ppm.

34 . The method of claim 33 wherein the amount of D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH 2 (SEQ ID. NO: 4) is in the range from 50 ppm to 500 ppm.

35 . The method of claim 32 comprising no more than 0.1% by weight of D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH 2 (SEQ ID. NO: 4).

The method of claim 35 wherein said composition further comprises one or more additional ingredients selected from the group consisting of: ascorbic acid and ascorbic acid derivatives; lipoic acid; α-hydroxy acids; and tocotrienols and tocotrienol derivatives and vitamin E compositions enriched with tocotrienols or tocotrienol derivatives.

37 . The method of claim 35 wherein skin dryness, dullness, or lack of radiance are improved.

38 . The method of claim 35 wherein exaggerated lines and wrinkles are prevented or retarded.

39 . The method of claim 35 wherein the appearance of spider vessels or red blotchiness is prevented or retarded.

40 . A topical composition to prevent and repair skin aging, comprising: an effective amount of at least one Szeto-Schiller peptide and a dermatologically acceptable carrier.

41 . The topical composition of claim 40 further comprising one or more additional ingredients selected from the group consisting of: ascorbic acid and ascorbic acid derivatives; lipoic acid; α-hydroxy acids; and tocotrienols and tocotrienol derivatives and vitamin E compositions enriched with tocotrienols or tocotrienol derivatives.

42 . The topical composition of claim 40 wherein the peptide is in the range from 10 ppm to 1000 ppm.

43 . The topical composition of claim 42 wherein the peptide is in the range from 50 to 500 ppm.

44 . The topical composition of claim 40 comprising up to 0.1% by weight of peptide.

45 . The topical composition of claim 40 wherein the carrier comprises lecithin.

46 . A method for the prevention and treatment of skin aging comprising: applying a composition containing Szeto-Schiller peptide and a dermatologically acceptable carrier to skin tissue.

47 . The method of claim 46 wherein the peptide is Tyr-D-Arg-Phe-Lys-NH 2 (SEQ. ID. NO: 1).

48 . The method of claim 46 wherein the peptide is Dmt-D-Arg-Phe-Lys-NH 2 (SEQ. ID. NO: 2).

49 . The method of claim 46 wherein the peptide is Phe-D-Arg-Phe-Lys-NH 2 (SEQ. ID. NO. 3).

50 . The method of claim 46 wherein the peptide is D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH 2 (SEQ ID. NO: 4).

51 . The method of claim 46 wherein the peptide is in the range from 10 ppm to 1000 ppm.

52 . The method of claim 46 wherein the peptide is in the range from 50 to 500 ppm.

53 . The method of claim 46 comprising up to 0.1% by weight peptide.

54 . The method of claim 46 wherein the carrier comprises lecithin.

55 . The method of claim 46 wherein said composition further comprises one or more additional ingredients selected from the group consisting of: ascorbic acid and ascorbic acid derivatives; lipoic acid; α-hydroxy acids; and tocotrienols and tocotrienol derivatives and vitamin E compositions enriched with tocotrienols or tocotrienol derivatives.
