Abstract

A slurried solid media for simultaneous water purification and carbon dioxide removal from gas mixtures includes the steps of dissolving the gas mixture and carbon dioxide in water providing a gas, carbon dioxide, water mixture; adding a porous solid media to the gas, carbon dioxide, water mixture forming a slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid media; heating the slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid media producing steam; and cooling the steam to produce purified water and carbon dioxide.

Claims (20)

1. A method of harvesting carbon dioxide from a gas mixture, comprising the steps of:

dissolving the gas mixture and carbon dioxide in water providing a gas, carbon dioxide, water mixture;

adding a porous solid media to said gas, carbon dioxide, water mixture forming a slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid media;

heating said slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid media producing steam, wherein after said step of heating said slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid media producing steam; said porous solid media is recycled back to said step of adding a porous solid media to said gas, carbon dioxide, water mixture forming a slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid media; and

cooling said steam to produce the carbon dioxide thereby harvesting the carbon dioxide from a gas mixture.

2. A method of simultaneously removing carbon dioxide from a gas mixture and purifying water, comprising the steps of:

dissolving the gas mixture and carbon dioxide in water providing a gas, carbon dioxide, water mixture;

adding a porous solid media to said gas, carbon dioxide, water mixture forming a slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid media;

heating said slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid media producing steam, wherein after said step of heating said slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid media producing steam; said porous solid media is recycled back to said step of adding a porous solid media to said gas, carbon dioxide, water mixture forming a slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid media; and

cooling said steam to produce water and the carbon dioxide thereby removing the carbon dioxide from a gas mixture and purifying the water.

3. A method of simultaneously removing carbon dioxide from a gas mixture and purifying water, comprising the steps of:

dissolving the gas mixture and carbon dioxide in water providing a gas, carbon dioxide, water mixture;

adding a porous solid media to said gas, carbon dioxide, water mixture forming a slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid media;

heating said slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid media producing steam; and

cooling said steam to produce water and the carbon dioxide thereby removing the carbon dioxide from a gas mixture and purifying the water, wherein said step of cooling said steam to produce water and the carbon dioxide thereby removing the carbon dioxide from a gas mixture and purifying the water includes producing water with impurities and including the step of recycling said water with impurities back to said step of dissolving the gas mixture and carbon dioxide in water providing a gas, carbon dioxide, water mixture.

4. A method of simultaneously removing carbon dioxide from a gas mixture and purifying water, comprising the steps of:

dissolving the gas mixture and carbon dioxide in water providing a gas, carbon dioxide, water mixture;

adding a porous solid bead media to said gas, carbon dioxide, water mixture forming a slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid bead media;

heating said slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid bead media producing steam, wherein after said step of heating said slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid bead media producing steam; said porous solid bead media is recycled back to said step of adding a porous solid bead media to said gas, carbon dioxide, water mixture forming a slurry of gas, carbon dioxide, water, and porous solid bead media; and

cooling said steam to produce water and the carbon dioxide thereby removing the carbon dioxide from a gas mixture and purifying the water.
