Abstract

Online sale of software product use licenses through a data network by offering software products (SOFT) through vendor sites, purchasing a license on-line on one of said vendor sites, and activating said license on-line by a different licensing site. A specific component (COMP) is provided with the software product (SOFT) and identifying data (IDV) of the vendor site are transmitted during the download of the software product (SOFT). When the component (COMP) is executed in an equipment, the component (COMP) locally accesses said data (IDV) and identifying data (IDL) of the licensing site and activates the license by setting up an on-line communication with the licensing site.

Claims (17)

- 42 . (canceled)

. A method involving the on-line acquisition of a software product from a first site by an electronic device, the method comprising: selecting by use of the electronic device a first option which is selectable between at least the first option and a second option, when selected the first option initiating an on-line acquisition of a first version of the software product by the electronic device without a purchase transaction with the first site, when selected the second option initiating an on-line acquisition of a second version of the software product by the electronic device with a purchase transaction with the first site, the first site different from the software product manufacturer site, the first version of the software product comprising executable instructions incorporated therein by the software product manufacturer that when installed and executed in the electronic device are capable of determining if a payment transaction to acquire the second version of the software product has occurred and to produce in the electronic device one or more graphical interfaces useable to initiate a purchase transaction to acquire the second version from the first site if the purchase transaction has not occurred.

. The method according to claim 43 , wherein the first version of the software product is a demonstration version of the software product and the second version of the software product is a non-demonstration version of the software product.

. The method according to claim 43 , wherein the first version of the software product is downloaded to the electronic device from the first site or from a second site, the second site different from the software product manufacturer site.

. The method according to claim 43 , wherein the one or more graphical interfaces useable to initiate a purchase transaction to acquire the second version are produced in the electronic device after a designated time of the acquisition of the first version of the software product by the electronic device.

. A method involving the on-line acquisition of a software product from a first site by an electronic device, the method comprising: optionally selecting by use of the electronic device to acquire on-line a first version of the software product without a purchase transaction with the first site or to acquire on-line a second version of the software product with a purchase transaction with the first site, the first site different from the software product manufacturer site, the first version of the software product comprising executable instructions incorporated therein by the software product manufacturer that when installed and executed in the electronic device are capable of determining if a purchase transaction to acquire the second version of the software product has occurred and to produce in the electronic device one or more graphical interfaces in the electronic device useable to initiate a purchase transaction to acquire the second version from the first site if the purchase transaction has not occurred.

. The method according to claim 47 , wherein the first version of the software product is a demonstration version of the software product and the second version of the software product is a non-demonstration version of the software product.

. The method according to claim 47 , wherein the first version of the software product is downloaded to the electronic device from the first site or from a second site, the second site different from the software product manufacturer site.

. A method involving the on-line acquisition of a software product from a first site by an electronic device, the method comprising: selecting by use of the electronic device a first option which is selectable between at least the first option and a second option, when selected the first option initiating an on-line acquisition of a first version of the software product by the electronic device without a purchase transaction with the first site, when selected the second option initiating an on-line acquisition of a second version of the software product by the electronic device with a purchase transaction with the first site, the first site different from the software product manufacturer site, the first version of the software product comprising executable instructions incorporated therein by the software product manufacturer that when installed and executed in the electronic device are capable of determining if a payment transaction to acquire the second version of the software product has occurred and to produce in the electronic device one or more graphical interfaces useable to initiate a purchase transaction to acquire the second version from the first site or from a second site associated with the first site if the purchase transaction has not occurred.

. The method according to claim 50 , wherein the first version of the software product is a demonstration version of the software product and the second version of the software product is a non-demonstration version of the software product.

. The method according to claim 50 , wherein the first version of the software product is downloaded to the electronic device from the first site or from a third site, the third site different from the software product manufacturer site.

. The method according to claim 52 , wherein the second site and the third site are the same.

. The method according to claim 50 , wherein the one or more graphical interfaces useable to initiate a purchase transaction to acquire the second version are produced in the electronic device after a designated time of the acquisition of the first version of the software product by the electronic device.

. A method involving the on-line acquisition of a software product from a first site by an electronic device, the method comprising: optionally selecting by use of the electronic device to acquire on-line a first version of the software product without a purchase transaction with the first site or to acquire on-line a second version of the software product with a purchase transaction with the first site, the first site different from the software product manufacturer site, the first version of the software product comprising executable instructions incorporated therein by the software product manufacturer that when installed and executed in the electronic device are capable of determining if a purchase transaction to acquire the second version of the software product has occurred and to produce in the electronic device one or more graphical interfaces in the electronic device useable to initiate a purchase transaction to acquire the second version from the first site or from a second site associated with the first site if the purchase transaction has not occurred.

. The method according to claim 55 , wherein the first version of the software product is a demonstration version of the software product and the second version of the software product is a non-demonstration version of the software product.

. The method according to claim 55 , wherein the first version of the software product is downloaded to the electronic device from the first site or from a third site, the third site different from the software product manufacturer site.

. The method according to claim 57 , wherein the second site and the third site are the same.
