Abstract

A small scale integrated waste processing system for the thermal destructions of waste. The system comprises a compactor ( 12 ) for densifying waste and expressing air, a pyrolyzer ( 13 ) to receive waste delivered from the compactor, a gasifier ( 14 ) with an ash vessel ( 23 ) that receives dried waste, and an oxidizer ( 15 ) receiving gas from the gasifier to be combusted. Heat energy from the oxidizer can be routed back to the pyrolyzer.

Claims (19)

1 . A waste processing system comprising a compactor for densifying waste and expressing air, a pyrolyzer to receive waste delivered from said compactor, a gasifier receiving waste from said pyrolyzer, and an oxidizer receiving gas from the gasifier to be combusted.

2 . The waste processing system of claim 1 wherein the pyrolyzer includes a screw and a feed tube, wherein said screw is arranged therethrough said feed tube.

3 . The waste processing system of claim 1 wherein energy from an output gas of the oxidiser is used to provide heat to the pyrolyzer.

4 . The waste processing system of claim 1 further comprising a heat reclaimer to process excess heat from the oxidizer.

5 . The waste processing system of claim 4 wherein the heat reclaimer is an indirect heat exchanger.

6 . The waste processing system of claim 4 wherein energy from the heat reclaimer is used for absorption chilling and/or air conditioning and/or refrigeration and/or space heating and/or process heating and/or distillation and/or desalination.

7 . The waste processing system of claim 4 wherein energy from the heat reclaimer is used for electrical energy generation.

8 . The waste processing system of claim 1 including an ash vessel to receive ash from the pyrolyzer or gasifier.

9 . The waste processing system of claim 2 wherein the feed tube of the pyrolyzer is anchored to the gasifier to allow said feed tube to expand towards its free end.

10 . The waste processing system of claim 9 further including a main pyrolyzer tube and an expansion gaiter, wherein the feed tube is inserted into said main pyrolyzer tube with a clearance and sealed by said expansion gaiter.

11 . The waste processing system of claim 1 wherein the pyrolyzer operates at over 500° C.

12 . The waste processing system of claim 1 wherein the oxidizer operates at over 850° C.

13 . The waste processing system of claim 1 wherein the equipment parts of said system are housed within two ISO containers for mobility.

A method of processing waste comprising densifying waste and expressing air therefrom in a compactor, delivering the waste from a compactor to a pyrolyzer, heating the waste for thermal decomposition of organic material by action of heat alone in the pyrolyzer, receiving waste from the pyrolyzer in a gasifier, gasifying waste in the gasifier, receiving the gas from the gasifier in an oxidiser, and oxidising the gas to be combusted.

15 . The method of claim 14 including processing excess heat from the pyrolyzer in a heat reclaimer.

16 . The method of claim 15 including using the energy from the heat reclaimer for a process selected from the group consisting of absorption chilling, air conditioning, refrigeration, space heating, process heating, distillation and desalination.

17 . The method of claim 15 including using the energy from the heat reclaimer for electrical energy generation.

18 . The method of claim 14 including operating the pyrolyzer at a temperature of over 500° C.

19 . The method of claim 14 including operating the oxidiser at a temperature of over 850° C.
