Abstract

Integrating services provided by intelligent peripherals in a communications network, includes interacting, by a first intelligent peripheral of a first type, with a second intelligent peripheral of a second type which interacts with the first intelligent peripheral of the first type according to a script based on information received from a remote requesting party. The remote requesting party interacts, over the communications network, with the second intelligent peripheral of the second type according to the script. The first intelligent peripheral of the first type and the second intelligent peripheral of the second type are different from each other.

Claims (46)

1. A method for integrating services provided by intelligent peripherals in a communications network, comprising:

interacting, by a first intelligent peripheral of a first type, with a second intelligent peripheral of a second type which interacts with the first intelligent peripheral of the first type according to a script based on information received from a remote requesting party that interacts, over the communications network, with the second intelligent peripheral of the second type according to the script,

wherein the first intelligent peripheral of the first type and the second intelligent peripheral of the second type are different from each other.

2. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the second intelligent peripheral of the second type interacts over the communications network with the remote requesting party based on instructions from an external controller.

3. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the first intelligent peripheral of the first type interacts indirectly with the second intelligent peripheral of the second type based on instructions provided to the first intelligent peripheral of the first type from an external controller.

4. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the first intelligent peripheral of the first type interacts indirectly with the second intelligent peripheral of the second type based on instructions provided to the second intelligent peripheral of the second type from an external controller.

5. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the first intelligent peripheral of the first type interacts indirectly with the second intelligent peripheral of the second type based on the first type and instructions provided to the first intelligent peripheral of the first type from an external controller.

6. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the script is stored externally and processed by an external controller.

7. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the interacting with the type of intelligent peripheral begins when the second intelligent peripheral of the second type determines whether to contact the first intelligent peripheral of the first type based on the information received from the remote requesting party.

8. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the interacting with the second intelligent peripheral of the second type comprises receiving, from the second intelligent peripheral of the second type, the information received from the remote requesting party.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

interacting with the remote requesting party when a three-party communications session is established.

10. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the interacting with the second intelligent peripheral of the second type comprises an exchange of signals.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

retrieving an entry from a session database when a session information entry, that includes information related to the second intelligent peripheral of the second type interacting over the communications network with the remote requesting party, is stored at the session database; and

updating, by the first intelligent peripheral of the first type, the information related to the second intelligent peripheral of the second type interacting over the communications network with the remote requesting party.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

retrieving, by the first intelligent peripheral of the first type, from a session database a session information entry that includes information related to the second intelligent peripheral of the second type interacting over the communications network with the remote requesting party and that is stored at the session database when the second intelligent peripheral of the second type interacting over the communications network with the remote requesting party is suspended,

updating, by the first intelligent peripheral of the first type, the information related to the second intelligent peripheral of the second type interacting over the communications network with the remote requesting party, the updated session information entry being retrieved from the session database by the second intelligent peripheral of the second type, and the interacting over the communications network with the remote requesting party being resumed by the second intelligent peripheral of the second type.

13. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the remote requesting party comprises a computer processor.

14. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the second intelligent peripheral of the second type provides a request for information to the remote requesting party and receives a response to the request for information from the remote requesting party to interact over the communications network with the remote requesting party.

15. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the interacting by the first intelligent peripheral of the first type with the second intelligent peripheral of the second type comprises receiving, from the second intelligent peripheral of the second type, information received from the remote requesting party.

16. The method of claim 15 ,

wherein the first intelligent peripheral of the first type is used to authenticate the remote requesting party based on the information received by the second intelligent peripheral of the second type from the remote requesting party.

17. The method of claim 16 ,

wherein a service is provided by the second intelligent peripheral of the second type contingent on the remote requesting party being authenticated by the first intelligent peripheral of the first type based on the information received from the remote requesting party.

18. The method according to claim 1 ,

wherein the first intelligent peripheral of the first type does not support at least one service supported by the second intelligent peripheral of the second type.

19. A system for integrating services provided by intelligent peripherals in a communications network, comprising:

a first intelligent peripheral of a first type that interacts with a second intelligent peripheral of a second type; and

the second intelligent peripheral of the second type interacting with the first intelligent peripheral of the first type according to a script based on information received from a remote requesting party that interacts, over the communications network, with the second intelligent peripheral of the second type according to the script,

wherein the first intelligent peripheral of the first type and the second intelligent peripheral of the second type are different from each other.

20. At least one non-transitory computer readable medium that stores a set of executable instructions for integrating services provided by intelligent peripherals in a communications network, the set of executable instructions directing at least one processor to perform acts of:

interacting, by a first intelligent peripheral of a first type, with a second intelligent peripheral of a second type which interacts with the first intelligent peripheral of the first type according to a script based on information received from a remote requesting party that interacts, over the communications network, with the second intelligent peripheral of the second type according to the script,

wherein the first intelligent peripheral of the first type and the second intelligent peripheral of the second type are different from each other.
