Abstract

A system may include a destination device that receives information about a caller via a first outgoing leg and exchanges content with the caller via the first outgoing leg. The system may further include a network device that receives an incoming call from the caller, establishes the first outgoing leg, connects the incoming call to the first outgoing leg so the content can be exchanged, monitors the first outgoing leg, selectively establishes a second outgoing leg in response to the monitoring, and connects the incoming call to the second outgoing leg.

establishing a first outgoing path to the destination, and

bridging the incoming path and the first outgoing path,

first communications between the caller device and the destination being transmitted on the first outgoing path and the first outgoing path using in-band signaling;

receiving, by the network device and from one of the caller device or the destination, an indication of a disruption of the first communications between the caller device and the destination,

the indication being received via out-of band signaling that differs from the in-band signaling used to transmit the first communications;

establishing, by the network device and while maintaining the incoming path, a second outgoing path to the destination based on receiving the indication; and

bridging, by the network device, the incoming path and the second outgoing path.

2. The method of claim 1 , where second communications between the caller device and the destination are transmitted on the incoming path and on the second outgoing path, and

where the method further comprises:

monitoring the second communications between the caller device and the destination;

determining, based on monitoring the second communications, that the incoming path and the second outgoing path are successfully bridged; and

dropping the first outgoing path based on determining that the incoming path and the second outgoing path are successfully bridged.

3. The method of claim 1 ,

where the indication includes an instruction signal directing the network device to establish the second outgoing path.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

maintaining the first outgoing path for at least a particular time duration after establishing the second outgoing path.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

sampling signaling information or media related to at least one of the incoming path or the first outgoing path,

the second outgoing path being established further based on data collected when sampling the signaling information or the media.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying interference related to transmission of the first communications; and

comparing the interference to a threshold,

the second outgoing path being established further based on determining that the interference exceeds a threshold.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

sending, from the network device and to the caller device, an indication that the caller device is being disconnected from the first outgoing path and is being connected to the second outgoing path.

8. The method of claim 1 , where the first outgoing path passes through a first communications network, and

where the second outgoing path passes through a second communications network that differs from the first communications network.

9. The method of claim 1 , where:

the destination includes a plurality of destination devices,

the first outgoing path connects the network device to a first destination device of the plurality of destination devices, and

the second outgoing path connects the network device to a second destination device of the plurality of destination devices.

10. A device comprising:

a memory; and

a processor to:

store, in the memory, information associated with a call request,

the call request being received from a caller device via an incoming leg,

connect the caller device to a destination based on the call request,

the processor, when connecting the caller device to the destination, being further to:

establish a first outgoing leg between the device and the destination, and

bridge the incoming leg and the first outgoing leg,

 first communications, between the caller device and the destination, being sent using in-band signaling on the incoming leg and the first outgoing leg,

receive, from one of the caller device or the destination, an indication of a disruption of the first communications between the caller device and the destination,

the processor receiving the indication via out-of band signaling that differs from the in-band signaling,

establish, while maintaining the incoming leg, a second outgoing leg to the destination based on receiving the indication, and

bridge the incoming leg and the second outgoing leg,

second communications between the caller device and the destination being transmitted on the incoming leg and on the second outgoing leg.

11. The device of claim 10 , where the processor, when receiving the indication of the disruption of, is further to:

identify, based on monitoring the first communications, a disruption of the first communications,

the processor establishing the second outgoing leg further based on identifying the disruption.

12. The device of claim 11 , where the processor, when identifying the disruption, is further to:

identify interference related to the first communications, and

identify the disruption based on determining that the interference exceeds a threshold.

13. The device of claim 10 ,

where the indication includes an instruction from one of the caller device or the destination to establish the second outgoing leg.

14. The device of claim 10 , where the processor is further to:

continue to maintain after the first outgoing leg for a particular time duration after establishing the second outgoing leg.

15. The device of claim 10 , where the processor, when bridging the incoming leg and the first outgoing leg, is further to:

establish a SIP session via the incoming leg and the first outgoing leg, and

where the processor, when bridging the incoming leg and the second outgoing leg, is further to:

switch the SIP session to the incoming leg and the second outgoing leg.

16. The device of claim 10 , where the destination comprises a plurality of destination devices,

where the first outgoing leg connects the device to a first destination device of the plurality of destination devices, and

where the second outgoing leg connects the device to a second destination device of the plurality of destination devices,

the second destination device being different from the first destination device.

17. A non-transitory computer-readable memory device for storing instructions, the instructions including:

one or more instructions that, when executed by a processor included in a server device, cause the processor to receive an incoming call portion;

one or more instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to establish a first outgoing call portion from the server device to a destination based on information associated with the incoming call portion;

one or more instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to connect the incoming call portion to the outgoing call portion to allow communication between a source device, associated with the incoming call portion, and the destination using in-band signaling;

one or more instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor receive, through out-of-band signaling that differs from the in-band signaling, an indication from one of the source device or the destination that the communication between the source device and the destination was interrupted;

one or more instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to establish, based on receiving the indication, a replacement call portion from the server device to the destination;

one or more instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to connect the incoming call portion to the destination via the replacement call portion; and

one or more instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to drop the outgoing call portion after connecting the incoming call portion to the destination via the replacement call portion.

18. The computer-readable memory device of claim 17 , where the destination comprises a plurality of destination devices,

where the outgoing call portion connects the server device to a first destination device of the plurality of destination devices, and

where the replacement call portion connects the server device to a second destination device of the plurality of destination devices, that differs from the first destination device.

19. The computer-readable memory device of claim 17 , where the instructions further include:

one or more instructions to send, from the server device to the source device, an indication that the source device is being disconnected from the outgoing call portion and is being connected to the replacement call portion.
